Rep. Guy Reschenthaler (R-Pa.), who is Emmer’s deputy whip, is also making calls about a potential candidacy to replace Emmer at majority whip.
Rep. Tom Emmer (R-Minn.) has been making calls to members ahead of a likely bid for majority leader, according to a Republican with direct knowledge of the conversations.
Rep. Guy Reschenthaler (R-Pa.), who is Emmer’s deputy whip, is also making calls about a potential candidacy to replace Emmer at majority whip should he move up, this Republican said.
Emmer arrived in Congress in 2015 and last year was elected to the third-highest position in House Republican leadership, barely winning a competitive three-way race for the position.
Previously, he served as the head of the National Republican Congressional Committee, leading the GOP campaign arm during the 2022 cycle — when the GOP regained control of the House. He called former President Donald Trump a “fantastic ally” during that cycle but has yet to endorse Trump’s 2024 bid.
Some of the conservatives who helped boot McCarthy from the speakership had floated Emmer as a possible successor.

Emmer was McCarthys right hand man. What else do we need to know?
Emmer supported Boehner, Ryan, McCarthy.
Emmer is Mr status quo personified in the flesh.
He is a non leading swamp dwelling go along to get along.
I will however say this: I don't think Emmer is the bald face liar that McCarthy is and was, for what it's worth.
I know nothing about Emmer, but that he is from Minnesota.
You know, kinda like McCarthy is from California.
Why not Matt Gaetz? He’s the only one with a pair.
That person would need more then 7 votes.
Plus, takes it away from jefferies which would be beautiful especially since democrats are so into being first.
