Earlier today the US House of Representatives passed a last-minute spending bill to keep the government funded for an additional 45 days, narrowly averting a government shutdown that would have commenced at 12:01 a.m. The bill, spearheaded by House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), now heads to the Senate, where it is expected to pass.
With a 335-91 vote, the House approved a 45-day temporary funding measure that excludes border security and $6 billion in funding for Ukraine.
The bill includes provisions for disaster relief funds that likely swayed some Democrats to vote in favor.
Shortly after today’s vote news broke that Kevin McCarthy pulled a fast one and made a side deal with GOP Minority leader Mitch McConnell and Joe Biden to fund Ukraine.

So, an up or down vote. (1) Time to put a stop to that? And, (2) Where is Gaetz’s vacate chair motion that he claimed to have submitted?
They need a serious, public debate. I sat in many of the Contra funding debates while a grad student. Those were lively, put things out in public. Need the same now.
Who witnessed this? Where is the video? I’m not saying it is not true but there isn’t any evidence in this story. No quotes. Nothing.

So what we’ve (re-)learned today is that the real division in politics isn’t Republican vs. Democrat but MAGA vs. Globalist, and apparently it’s about 91 to 335.

I believe the headline on this story is misleading.
McCarthy agreed to remove Ukraine funding from the Continuing Resolution and have a separate vote on it.
This is good. It forces everyone in the House to go on record regarding whether they support or oppose funding Ukraine.
House members can campaign on how they voted on funding Ukraine in 2024 and we can decide whether we agree or disagree with them.

So does Trump. I’m glad to see he now calls McCarthy out but we knew McCarthy was a snake even before they shoved him down our throats.
