Well I disagree with you. People like the mother-in-law are for outwitting and for growing the sort of imagination needed for problem solving. Can the daughter-in-law minimize contact? Sure, and that’s part of the fun.
We had one of those in our family, she became very disenchanted with the Church eventually, died of covid, and left all her stuff to her kids. People grow, they change. I’m betting that the mother-in-law wasn’t always so... um... virtuous(?). The one we had probably should have been buried in a Y shaped coffin. She became a cautionary tale for an entire generation of our family, effectively breaking a generational chain of substance abuse, simply because nobody wanted to end up like that!
Ok, now you’re just having fun!
That’s a wonderful dimension that’s missing, and candidly one I overlooked.
I totally agree there may be an element of “spring training” available in this saga, assuming many other things.
It struck me that this was well into the regular season. If not, then yes…adult children - and parents - need to work this stuff out.
Thanks for the clarification.
You’re most welcome. I think the daughter-in-law will be losing this round because she over-reached and banished the mother-in-law. She kicked her out of the kid’s life and the life of any future kids as well... over Santa. She says her husband is with her on this, but this is the guy’s mom. Plus there are brother and sister-in-laws who are already saying she owes the old lady an apology. Most likely that is due to the over-reach of permanently banishing the woman.
This is her first kid, and that kid is currently 4, I’d say it’s still Spring training ;)
