Florida Governor Ron DeSantis condemned the federal indictment of former President Donald Trump — and used his statement about it to campaign.
DeSantis posted a statement about the “weaponization of federal law enforcement” to his Twitter account on Thursday evening.
“The weaponization of federal law enforcement represents a mortal threat to a free society,” DeSantis began. “We have for years witnessed an uneven application of the law depending upon political affiliation.”
The tweet continued, “Why so zealous in pursuing Trump yet so passive about Hillary or Hunter?”
DeSantis then quickly switched gears to campaign for himself.
“The DeSantis administration will bring accountability to the DOJ, excise political bias and end weaponization once and for all,” the governor concluded.
The Department of Justice has indicted former President Donald Trump on seven counts related to handling classified documents, according to reports.
Trump responded to the federal charges by declaring, “I AM INNOCENT” in multiple posts on Truth Social.
This is the first time in the history of the United States that a former president has faced federal charges.

This stopped being simple electoral politics yesterday. And it’s not even close to being a game. Old rules are out the window. Normal paradigms aren’t a thing any more. Biden is Chavez, Ortega, and Noreaga now, and we are screwed if Trump doesn’t TCB. None of the other yahoos will; they’re too weak.
How soon you forget. Trump had no control of his DOJ, almost from day one. There was Sessions' recusal, then Mueller and then the GOPe telling Trump that he would be impeached if he fired anybody.

No; they’d take him up on it in a heartbeat. Where else would they have unfettered access to carry out his suicide? Their goal isn’t to have him out of the election process. They want him dead and nothing less will do.
If Trump embraces DeSantis after the primary fight - like he embraced Cruz after the primary fight - then what are you going to say?
Will you say Trump stabbed you in the back for embracing DeSantis after you staked your reputation on DeSantis being worse than bug spit?
I suggest we all try to contain our emotions until we see how the primary plays out.

Listen pal... the Deep State is going after ALL of us, but Trump is in the way. If he’s an “injured General” it’s because he’s taking the hits meant for all of us.

You expect us to believe Trump wouldn’t be having a field day with DeSantis if the shoe was on the other foot? Get real. DeSantis statement was completely appropriate, and more than what many others have done, and definitely more gracious than Trump would have been.

I’m curious why Trump hasn’t attacked Gov. Doug Burgum of ND now that he is a candidate like he has attacked DeSantis? Trump endorsed Burgum twice for Governor and now he’s running against him. Doesn’t seem Burgum is too loyal to Trump, but strangely no attacks.
Trump knows no one but DeSantis poses any sort of a threat in the primary.
He’s being nice to the others so that when they drop out, which they will, they fall in line behind him, instead of DeSantis.

DeSantis says nothing, they ask why he remains quiet.
He condemns the indictment and nothing else, they ask, well what’s he gonna do about it?
He mentions some steps he would take and he’s campaigning.
