Correct. Lowering the water level only brings the Russian positions closer to attacking Ukrainian Nazis. There's no tactical reason to do that. If there were, they could have just opened the flood gates without having to destroy the dam.

The owner of the “Wagner” PMC Yevgeny Prigozhin accused the higher Russian military leadership of the genocide of the Russian population and admitted that the Russians “will lose more territory.”
He stated this in an interview with Russian propagandist Victoria Tolkachova. The video of the conversation was published on the Russian Telegram channel “Donbas Now”, Censor.NET reports.
“In our country, the top military leadership operates - the colonels call me and say: we are full of shit, we have again Valery Vasyliovych (Gerasimov. - Ed.) drank a glass of vodka and is fighting hysterically... We are now suffering serious losses, we will definitely lose part of the territory,” Prigozhin said.
He declared that Russia should not have “lost Kherson” and that everyone should have come to the front line - “the State Duma, officials, the entire Kremlin.”
The terrorist Prigozhin traditionally accused the Russian military leadership of not doing anything.
“Shoyga will be fooling around on Frunzenskaya Street, and Gerasimov will drink a glass of vodka in the morning and fight in paranoia. Either the mothers of the dead will eat their bodies, or they will be shot to hell...This is a fact of genocide of the Russian population. All these actions by Shoigu Serhiy Kuzhugetovich are not an accident, they are genocide,” he said.

I suggest prayers for peace would be more appropriate. There don’t appear to be many good guys in this whole mess.

The same reason they blew up another dam they built. YOu really don’t get how Russia operates. But here’s some help:
This damn is/was in Ukraine and is directly upstream from one of the most probably counteroffensive areas (and where some has already occurred). This is a strategy Russia has used before.
The dam is a hydroelectric dam - thus part of the power grid Russia has been attacking for many months.
It is also a form of terrorism - again, quite within the Russian MO.
