In June of 20 of 2015, Trump had just announced, was a political unknown at the time and was competing with around 20 people. He never trailed his rivals throughout primary season, steadily increasing his share as other candidates dropped out.

As far as the rest of your comment, it’s a little hard to respond to since it’s unclear if you were intending it to be satire or not.

But as far as Trump making vaccines mandatory - that’s clearly false. With regards to shutdowns, he shut down travel from China. He may have also shutdown travel from other countries - I don’t remember and would have to check - but he didn’t shut down businesses, large or small.

—> Trump...never trailed his rivals throughout primary season.

Ridiculous. Nobody believes that. There’s countless sources that can prove you wrong.

The NBC/WSJ poll measured 16 GOP candidates in our horserace question. And here are the 10 Republicans who make our poll’s Top 10 — the criteria being used for the first GOP debate in August — and the six who get left off:

Jeb Bush 22%
Scott Walker 17%
Marco Rubio 14%
Ben Carson 11%
Mike Huckabee 9%
Rand Paul 7%
Rick Perry 5%
Ted Cruz 4%
Chris Christie 4%
Carly Fiorina 2%
Donald Trump 1%. <————
Lindsey Graham 1%
John Kasich 1%
Bobby Jindal 0%
Rick Santorum 0%
George Pataki 0%

Trump overtook his rivals in mid-July. Yes, he was competing against a big slate of rivals. So is DeSantis. And DeSantis is also competing against the incumbent GOP standard bearer, which is not an easy thing. Even LBJ, despite a disastrous war, waited until the end of March during election year to withdraw from the race. Such is the power of incumbency. That’s what a political campaign is for - to whittle away at the front-runner’s edge in name-recognition and reputation, to make him bleed from numerous political wounds until he lies prostrate and throws in the towel.
