A California man found guilty of lighting UC Berkeley students on fire inside a boba tea shop in 2020 with a blowtorch has been released from custody and will avoid jail time, The Berkeley Scanner reports.
Brandon McGlone, 49, was referred to the Veterans Treatment Court and will be participating in a "diversion treatment" program as part of his plea deal, according to Alameda County Superior Court records.
Alameda County District Attorney Pamela Price, who ran on "racial equity", agreed to the plea deal after reaching an agreement with the public defender's office, the outlet reports.
At a court hearing on April 28, Judge James Cramer said that all charges "will be dismissed" if McGlone succesfully completes the diversion program. According to The Berkeley Scanner, if McGlone does not complete the program he will be sent to prison for up to eight years.

What we are going to see in the future is more and more law-abiding citizens taking matters into their own hands and swiftly dealing with threats without the involvement of DAs or the cops. We will start seeing neighborhood "Paul Kersey-type" resolutions to local crime problems.
I do not want to see that happen. I would prefer to see those who are repeat offenders being locked away from society for our nation's own good. But, I'm afraid that's not the pathway our nation's political leaders have decided to take.
As it sinks in the government has zero interest in public safety, inevitably there will be vigilantism (not just self defense). Then law enforcement will mobilize to stop it.
The Asian students should file an Amendment XIV, Section 1 lawsuit.
I believe the DA may be subject to recall.
Asians are about a third of the population:

Asians should know better but guess who they vote for?
Voted = Voted out
“But, I’m afraid that’s not the pathway our nation’s political leaders have decided to take.”
I think you are right.
America is finished. Your government steals from you & is trying to ruin your lives.
When, oh when, is George Soros gonna die?
“What we are going to see in the future is more and more law-abiding citizens taking matters into their own hands and swiftly dealing with threats without the involvement of DAs or the cops”
As we are seeing in the New York subway incident the government will destroy any citizen that deals with immediate threats.
To be fair, the Asian student may have looked askance at the perp, thus triggering him.
Has the Asian student already come out at a press conference, and solemnly sworn that he isn't a "White Supremacist?"
No? Then I think that we are right to remain suspicious of him!
Regards,
I’m sure the asian students will continue to vote rat and vote for insane laws....there is such a disconnect..
It’s hard to believe this sh__ is happening in our country.
We spent decades assuring equal rights for all Americans. Now we’re going backwards because of the Marxists and old buffoons like Soros.
The law has been defunded, skipping the police.
Vigilantism is a societal inevitability when a ruling power fails.
But first, the Bolsheviks will take their chance.
Rinse, repeat.
“I would prefer to see those who are repeat offenders being locked away from society for our nation’s own good.”
I would prefer to see FIRST offenders locked away for at least 30 days plus restitution to victims, for any violation of the law, no matter how minor.
The focus needs to be on public safety & limiting the number of future victims,
axcountability & deterence, & discouraging recidivism.
Sorry, no “blowtorch”.
“The term “blowtorch” applies to the obsolescent style of smaller liquid fuel torches.” (hand pump).
He obviously sprayed a flammable aerosol spray at the guy’s head and then lit it probably with a Bic type cigarette lighter.
It didn’t “set the man on fire”. The aerosol was “set on fire” maybe his hair was singed.
Still not cool, but he didn’t “set the man on fire” like it implied. Not a Somalia “set the man on fire”.
DRAMA! Sell news stories. The “truth” be damned.
California tells UC Berkeley students what they are worth.
