Biden administration green lights nation’s first congestion pricing plan for New York

The Biden administration on Friday cleared New York’s congestion pricing plan to move forward, approving an environmental review that suffered such significant delays many doubted the first-in-the-nation tolling system would ever happen.

The Federal Highway Administration issued a letter approving the New York Metropolitan Transportation’s Authority environmental assessment and issued a draft “Finding of No Significant Impact” that will now be up for public review for 30 days, according to a copy of the letter obtained by POLITICO.

The news means the agency has been given the green light to start charging drivers entering central Manhattan at peak times in an effort to cut down on gridlock.

MTA officials have said they would need almost a year to set up the new tolling infrastructure once it obtains federal approval, putting it on track to meet its current target of launching congestion pricing in the second quarter of 2024.

A spokesperson for Gov. Kathy Hochul said the finding “is a critical step that will allow our Environmental Assessment to be publicly available for anyone to read, and we will continue to work with our partners to move congestion pricing forward.”

The public transit authority hasn’t determined how much to charge drivers, but has considered fares ranging from $9 to $23 for passenger vehicles and between $12 and $82 for trucks. The scenarios contemplate different combinations of potential discounts, credits and exemptions.

New York has finally gotten the green light from the Biden administration to go ahead with their plans to impose a fee and start charging drivers entering central Manhattan at peak times in an effort to cut down on gridlock.

This will reduce commerce in the city and thus decrease tax revenues. Once against the stupidity of liberals is on display.

So they’ll revert this when the gasoline engines are banned in 2030 because this isn’t about population control, right?

Right?

Like when London banned gas powered cabs. They switched to diesel and pollution got much worse.

I guess they decided to finally finish destroying the city.

Good riddance. I will not miss it.

Cities are becoming obsolete. The Democrats are doing every thing in their power to hasten the their demise.

ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK (1981 FILM) where Manhattan becomes a maxium security prison may become a reality.

Not to mention one more reason to take one’s business in NYC elsewhere.

The NTTA (North Texas Tolling Authority) has had has had a congestion tolling set up for a few years now. It has even re-engineered I-35W in Fort Worth to create congestion in the none-toll lanes.

Because the Democrat party is in fact a Communist party they do not understand basic capitalism. They firmly believe all they have to do is find a way to tax something and the money will just flow into their greedy hands not understanding that Smith’s invisible hand dictates people will decide for themselves if the price is worth it and if not do with out.

Tax driving into the city will effect all business within the city and not in a good way.

Next law, no shop may increase their prices to offset the NYC entering fee......

What about say doctors driving to a hospital to take care of an emergency patient, will health insurance or ObamaCare cover the $82 fee?

As long as they charge people to get INTO the city and not LEAVE the city, all will be well. Ask all the New Yorkers in Florida who left.

They want people to use the subway. That may work for the people in New York but not tourists who want safety.

Biden and Hochul better get it done, quick.

I hear Russia is working on a De-congestion Plan for the same area, and it's going to be Free!

“The NTTA (North Texas Tolling Authority) has had has had a congestion tolling set up for a few years now. It has even re-engineered I-35W in Fort Worth to create congestion in the none-toll lanes.”

How does it work exactly?

Am wondering how it will work in midtown Manhattan. There are many routes one can take to get into midtown, from the north and the south on Manhattan island, from the west from New Jersey, and from the east from the borough of Queens.

More money to go towards reparations and other racist plans and actions...

Step #2 will probably be to charge an equivalent amount for each commuter-train passenger (Long Island, NY, CT, NJ) entering the city...

However, as a small step to reparations, non-Caucasians and perverts will not have to pay, either driving or commuting by train...

New York New York, it’s a wonderful town...
Actually, it was until John Lindsey (RINO) screwed it up and put it on the path to chaos and destruction...

I am old enough to have many, many fond memories of NYC in the 1940s & 1950s...

The chocolate ration has been increased from 25 grams to 22 grams

And in the interest of economy, the wrapper, cardboard container, and the list of ingredients in 35 languages has been included in the 22 gram weight.

“Singapore was the first city in the world to implement an electronic road toll collection system for purposes of congestion pricing. Its use has inspired other cities around the world in adopting a similar system, particularly London’s Congestion Charge Zone (CCZ) and Stockholm’s congestion tax. It has also been proposed in New York City and San Francisco.”

“Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd sold the IU technology to Singapore”

“If a vehicle owner does not have sufficient value in their CashCard (or EZ-Link) when passing through an ERP, the owner receives a fine by post within two weeks. The violator must pay the ERP charges plus a $10 administration fee within two weeks of the notice. Online payment is allowed; listing just the Vehicle Registration Number is required. Otherwise, a penalty of S$70 is issued by registered post to the vehicle owner, which rises to S$1000, or one month in jail, if not settled within 30 days.”
