I am not surprised at all.
This is very much like what was done in NAZI Germany, Soviet Russia, Communist China, Castro’s Cuba, Chavez’s Venezuela and all totalitarian nations.
Living in a post-Constitutional United States, I fully expect this sort of ‘history’ will be the norm for the next 100 years as the totalitarian state tightens & strengthens their control. Maybe longer
