Rep. Matt Gaetz on Wednesday called on Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis to resist any attempt to haul former President Donald Trump back to New York to face criminal charges.
In an interview with News Nation, the Fort Walton Beach Republican said Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s efforts to indict Trump are politically motivated and will likely make Trump stronger in the long run.

And maybe that is thing not to do.
Similar to Trump, FL could fight the extradition in court too. I don't expect FL to do that, but they could.
They could ask as I asked, what NYS law violation is Trump being charged with?
I agree with all that.
Only pointing out that we don't know for a fact what Trump strategy is. The sources in that article were unnamed.
I think Trump, sitting at Mara Lago down in Florida, with a phalanx of security guards, former navy seals, attorneys and the king of all the red states in office would be real hard to arrest.
What if a 5’ 0”, 90lb Federal Marshall, with a ring in her nose and purple hair and tattoos shows up and says “I’s here to arrest dat Trump guy” to a 6’ 10” 275 pound Private Security Guard backed by 100 armed guys of similar size. Let’s say the 6’ 10” guy says “No”. Then what?
The agent would turn around and come back with a lot of help.
And…Trumps lawyers would quit (again) because a client who does stuff like this isn’t worth whatever they are getting paid.
So, he ends up with Walmart lawyers who screw up the whole process.
What people don’t understand is that Trump doesn’t WANT to hide from this. He will gleefully go to court.
ok. i don’t have time to become an expert in FL asylum and extradition case law by ‘reading up.’
we’ll see what happens i guess.
It’s not like Trump is in another country. He is in FL.
The only reason to “fight extradition” is if the warrant isn’t written correctly or if they have detained the wrong person (mistaken identity.)
DeSantis can’t do anything.
I wish the folks suggesting this garbage would read up on what is going on.
“The free state of Florida does not take orders from New York.”
You might consider using that phrase as your tagline.:)
A correctly written warrant I would think would also need an actual NYS law that has been violated.
So far all I'm hearing is a federal campaign law that has exceeded the statute of limitations.
Matt Gaetz is blowing smoke. The governor has no such authority and this is well known. He either doesn’t know something that basic or he’s being less than forthright.
An indictment would contain the laws violated.
You guys are picking nits.
If NY wants to issue a warrant, Trump has to go there to deal its it. It’s that simple.
An indictment would contain the laws violated. You guys are picking nits.
If you are going to interrupt a conversation then you (guys) should at least follow the conversation.
All I asked is the NYS law that Bragg will use. All this talk about indictments, warrants and extraditions and nobody mentions any specific NYS law that Trump has violated that Bragg will use.
But that's "nit" picking to you.
Actually, there has been a lot of discussion on the topic on the internet. They are trying to charge him with falsifying business records. The claim seems to be that he reimbursed Cohen for paying off Daniels and listed the expense as legal fees when, according to their theory it should have been listed as a campaign expense/contribution.
Oh no, everyone yapping about “this is how it should be” don’t care or know what the law is. It’s just the way it should be. To wit, DeSantis should stand in the way of Trump to protect him….even if he’s not in FL physically.
Makes one wonder just how devoted to the rule of law they are.
No Governor can stop a legal extradition .
Please stop posting this nonsense .
*******
DeSantis could try to stall it, raising whatever novel legal theory might sound good to the public. The worst that could happen is that a court would order him to do it.
A governor may deny extradition if the person in question is not a fugitive. That is straight from 18 USC 3182.
A fugitive is defined in 18 USC 921 as “any person who has fled from any State to avoid prosecution for a crime or avoid giving testimony in any criminal proceeding.”
Since Trump is in Florida if and when he is charged, he did not flee from another state and is not a fugitive.
Bkmk
Bragg has nothing. It's why we don't know what the hell law Bragg is going to use. Top lawyer after top lawyer have explained why they have nothing.
Five minutes of research would tell you this.
You guys. You guys. You guys.
Do you have any indication that is happening? Because I don't see it. Trump himself seems to indicate he would turn himself in, if it comes to that.
