A black woman at work in the 1970s said to her adolescent son “Remember, with even a little cream in the coffee means it’s still coffee.”
That meant her son’s mixed race partner who has only a small amount of black genetic heritage in her family is still counted as black to black people. And would be accepted by the family as okay.
I also heard a black woman much later say of Halle Berry: “She has a whole lot of cream in her coffee.”
My wife likes her men like she likes her coffee.
Ground up and in the freezer.
