My first exposure to that sort of thing came when I was 18 and heard Lou Reed sing “Walk on the Wild Side”. I didn’t “get” the Kinks “Lola”. To paraphrase Laz, we are so screwed. Get those people away from those kids!! Size them for millstones!
I always saw ‘Lola’ as just a whimsical song about sexual confusion in adolescence. I didn’t believe Ray Davies was actually advocating transsexuality.
