North Island Naval Air Station is in San Diego. Probably routine exercises and the military failed to notify the public.
Watch the video at the link. I've never seen exercises in a populated area like this.
I live in North San Diego County near Camp Pendleton, and they keep their exercises confined to the base proper.
Maybe a little out of the ordinary. The oddest thing I see is doing it in the middle of the night but thats probably so there’s less traffic and people around. I don’t think it’s anything to be too alarmed about. Just my 2 cent.
Also, not too secret if your flying aircraft
between buildings and the local media is reporting on it. Lol
