The House of Representatives on Monday evening voted 221-210 to repeal funding for 87,000 IRS agents.

The so-called ‘Inflation Reduction Act’ gave $79.6 billion to the IRS over the next 10 years.

The Wall Street Journal said the new army of IRS agents will target the middle and upper-middle class.

According to new analysis, the IRS audits the poor at 5 times the rate of everyone else.

The IRS also has a history of targeting conservative groups.

The House approved its first bill on Monday night rescinding funding for the 87,000 IRS agents.

Its reminiscent of repubs passing a repeal of obamacare only to see it die in the withered hands of Harry Reid.

Empty gestures.

All spending bills must originate in the House. But such bills must also be passed by the Senate and then signed by the President. So that House power is really not a big deal.

Bottom line: The House can block new spending. But they alone can not change any spending that has already been signed into law.

This vote and two bucks will get you a cup of coffee.

Isn’t this the exact same playbook as the Republicans voting to repeal Obamacare every few months for years?

Instead of just voting on something that will never get signed and decalaring victory, hold some hearings. Ask the IRS commissioners point blank what the new agents will be doing?

Are they going to dig into normal people’s bank accounts?

Are they going to audit waitresses for not declaring tips and etsy shops for calculating taxes wrong?

Are they going after that side hustle, the uber money, the fiverr gigs?

The republicans can’t pass legislation in their position, amd they won’t get the cooperation from the executive branch that the dems have. all they can do effectively is put on a show, so put on that show.

Reminds me of all those votes to ‘defund Obamacare’. Not very effective since it was DOA in the Senate, and/or DOA in the White House.

But then, in 2017, everything was in place for the same vote, but this one making it to the White House, with a president ready to sign. But then, McCain (the one without the eye patch) shot it down (and was thanked by other RINOs who wanted to protect Obamacare, but not have to vote against to keep it).

The REAL TEST will be later this year, when the budget for NEXT YEAR, starting in October, will be developed. Will it fund the 87,000 Agents, or will they simply ‘forget’ about that promise, yet again - as that vote will actually have some teeth, and would actually eliminate them.

Not so sure.

Is their anything Biden wants for two years?

Might need to start here to “cross that aisle”.

I didn’t think they’d even vote on it.

This is at least a start.

Yes, indeed. The House can simply refuse to pass the next budget bill unless the IRS budget is drastically cut. This might lead to a government funding shutdown.

And a government shutdown would not be such a bad thing! This is a fight worth fighting. The only question is will the House fight, or compromise (cave in).

IRS agents should be forbidden from carrying Weapons.

They’re treating Rodeo Joe Shmoe as Al Capone. Police state Attributes for sure.

Meaningless.

Yup. Like voting to repeal Obamacare when it could not possibly happen.

Can't get through the Senate. It's all just for show.

Get rid of the $600 sale reporting via Ebay etc...and you won’t need those agents...

All BS. RINOs voted for it because they know it won’t pass in the senate and won’t be signed by Biden. They get to pretend to be conservatives.
