When I was a kid there was this pastor called Richard Wurmbrand who wrote a book ‘Tortured for Christ.’ Really bleak description of Romanian prisons under Ceaușescu... He ran one of the leading anti-communist Christian orgs during the 70s. I wonder how much things have improved since?
What’s sad is how Western governments, including the US under Nixon, kissed Ceausescu’s ass because they perceived he was “independent from Moscow”.
I spent a few months there in 2002. Enough time for me to actually have decent conversations with Romanians in their native tongue as it’s very close to Italian and Spanish.
I doubt much has changed in the prison system since Ceaușescu.
I’ve read Wurmbrand’s history. That man is a warrior for Christ. The Romanian people need a few hard pushes to make them want Church and Jesus. I pray for their nation and people a lot. It’s a wonderful country.
