Medicare signups

Posted on 12/19/2022 11:17:49 AM PST by EVO X

I have to go on Medicare early next April. I have my credit reports frozen. Does anybody know which ones I need to un freeze in order to log on? Foot traffic to the local SS office is backed up late February. The local SS office had no clue which credit report I needed to unfreeze.

“I didn’t know you need credit to get free Medicare”

Medicare is not free but no need for credit check to just log on.

Why unfreeze any of them? They’ll call you if they have a question.

Medicare isn’t exactly free you still pay a $170 (or whatever) a month premium for it though some states reimburse you for that amount if your income is low enough.

I started earlier this year. I didn’t have to do anything about credit reports.

Medicare isn’t free, there’s a monthly SS deduction.

What a credit report has to do with Medicare, I have no idea.

If you aren’t drawing SS you have to pay cash for Medicare.

If you can use a computer to do participate in FR, you should be able to use a computer to set up your SS.

Credit report? Are you in China? Did the social credit score algorithms drop?

I got on medicare in 2020. YOU DON’T GIVE ANYONE YOUR SSN.

Medicare is in no way part of or involved with credit reports or scores. In fact, I don’t play their game. I have never needed to even know my credit score(s). They can rot in hell for my concern.

What state are you in ?

You can’t create an online SS/Medicare account if your credit accounts are frozen. I’ll have to unfreeze at least one in order to create a SS/MC account. Do I need to unfreeze all 3 in order to create an account?

Each December we get with an agent and map out the next year. Only the medicare issued numbers (and letters).

I can give you more pointers if you are in Florida, just write.
You can change plans in the first quarter too.

That would only be the stupid big brother using them to verify your identity. Just making it easy for online sign up

If you go in person to SS, I don’t think you need verification of your person there.

I’ve never frozen anything with any credit bureaus. I haven’t given any outfit my SSN in two decades.

I hope you know medical places have no business with your SSN. Tell them to eat crap.

And it was illegal to use SSN for what its used for today.

Do you have a security freeze or fraud alert on your credit report?
If you have a security freeze, fraud alert, or both on your credit report, you can still open a personal my Social Security account by temporarily lifting it. To do this, you must:

Contact our Identity Services Provider and request that they temporarily lift your security freeze or fraud alert.
Create a a personal my Social Security account online after lifting the security freeze or fraud alert.
Reinstate the security freeze or fraud alert with the Identity Services Provider if needed. When you request a temporary lift of your credit freeze or fraud alert, the Identity Services Provider may automatically reinstate it after your temporary lift expires.
If you don’t want to temporarily lift your security freeze or fraud alert, you can contact your local Social Security office for assistance. For more information on security freezes and fraud alerts, read the Federal Trade Commission’s Credit Freeze FAQs.

Medicare has zero to do with your credit report. It’s an age or disability and Income thing. The IRS knows your income and how much you paid into Medicare over the years. The IRS is the source CMS uses for income data.

If you get stuck, call the hotline. My experience with them was superb.
