Which is why we need to go to a voucher system. Let parents decide the winners and losers of schools. Not the bureaucrats.

We were a one income family and sent 3 kids to parochial school on that one income. At one point I homeschooled, and then one went to public school for middle school. Then in HS it was back to private school.

You can make things work financially if that’s your priority. I stand by that. It was never easy, and we didn’t drive the coolest car (only had one), we didn’t have the fanciest clothes (most were second hand). We had a budget and stuck to it. Only went to public school when the administrators at the parochial school became too uppity for me. We could only barely scrape together the tuition, but we felt it was an investment in the kids’ futures. Donating more after that during fundraisers we did the bare minimum. So we weren’t popular because of the money issue. It was all we could afford, but we sacrificed to do that.

I get what you’re saying, though. Homeschooling was also good but my kids missed their friends. Actually, each type of school had its pluses and minuses. I think it just depends on your priorities and somewhat your circumstances.

Vouchers might work better. But, with vouchers, the taxpayers are still forced to fund education, and still, not every student would get into a good school. The bad schools would stay in business with the overflow of students who didn’t get into the good schools.

A better idea is to privatize all education. Let parents buy their own children’s education on the free market. Many parents would be surprised at how inexpensive a quality education is right now outside public school. If public schools were shut down, thus no longer monopolizing the education market, all sorts of private schools would open and compete with each other for business, and the cost of education would drop.

But, neither of our ideas will happen. The truth is, most parents don’t care about the vile and disgusting stuff being taught to their children. As long as someone else is teaching their kids, they don’t care and they don’t want to be bothered. Even the parents who complain keep sending their kids to the schools they complain about.

Many parents homeschool for a very low cost. We all passed used textbooks around, and we volunteered our time, organizing to give our kids an enriching learning experience. Our homeschool co-ops had more students than most private schools did.

That's because of teacher licensure requirements which demand indoctrination of teachers into good little commie-woke unionists.

I had to take and pass those classes to teach.
