INSIDERS: Kevin McCarthy Does Not Have the Votes for House Speaker
The Gateway Pundit ^ | December 26, 2022 | Joe Hoft

Kevin McCarthy currently does not have enough votes for Speaker.

This is a very good thing.

While Biden, Pelosi and Schumer are destroying the country like never before Kevin McCarthy is way too weak to stand up against this destruction of the USA. This is because McCarthy has never shown strength. He’s Paul Ryan’s puppet in the House.

Yesterday Congressman Bob Good from Virginia reported that after two years Kevin McCarthy there is no indication that McCarthy will suddenly stand up against the Biden regime.

Good shared:

Tell me on what basis Steve, if you were looking at the 220 members of Congress based on their merits, their skills, their qualities, their leadership demonstration that you would settle on Kevin McCarthy at the expense of the other 219 or so Republicans.

We need someone who represents the conservative center of the conference. We need someone who will truly stand up and fight with nerves of steel. We need someone who will hold every Republican accountable to fight againts the Schumer – Biden agenda.

We didn’t have that in the minority. There’s no way we’re going to have that in the majority [if it’s McCarthy]. And there are more than enough of us who are resolved not to vote for him that we need to get past a denial of the reality that he’s going to be Speaker.

That would be wonderful! So I guess that won’t happen.

Precisely. No one else has even a remote chance to get the 218 unfortunately. We will have survive on crumbs and maybe an occasional bone.

“McCarthy is not who she prefers but he can be pressured and held to account.”

I have seen no evidence of that.

The Speaker of the House has to be elected by the entire house. If McCarthy doesn’t have the votes on first ballot, it goes to a 2nd and maybe a 3rd. If there is not a “Republican” who can get all the Republican votes, there is a chance the Dems can do some damage. Keeping Republican’ts together appears to be like herding cats .... Pelousey has it down pat with keeping the DemonRats “together” and in lockstep (Schumer as well in the Senate). I do not know who on the Republican’t side would get enough votes if McCarthy doesn’t have enough. We’ll have to see how it plays out.

On McCarthy - he is one of the original 3 “Young Guns” ... the other two were Eric Cantor & Paul Ryan. I’d like to see McCarthy ‘toes up’ at the political OK Corral along with the other two .... on general principles, all speaker-ship matters aside. He’s a weak poodle.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++

FYI if you’re not familiar with “Young Guns”

Young Guns: A New Generation of Conservative Leaders Paperback – September 14, 2010
by Eric Cantor (Author), Paul Ryan (Author), Kevin McCarthy (Author)

Description (note: you may need a barf bag when you read this & see the difference between the ‘words’ and actual ‘action’):
Make no mistake: Congressmen Eric Cantor, Paul Ryan, and Kevin McCarthy are proud Republicans. But they believe the party had lost sight of the ideals it believes in, like economic freedom, limited government, the sanctity of life, and putting families first. This isn’t your grandfather’s Republican party. These Young Guns of the House GOP—Cantor (the leader), Ryan (the thinker), and McCarthy (the strategist)—are ready to take their belief in the principles that have made America great and translate it into solutions that will make the future even better, solutions that will create private sector jobs, maximize individual freedom, and establish a better world for our children. This groundbreaking book is a call to action that sets forth a plan for growth, opportunity, and commitment that will propel this country to prosperity once again. Together, the Young Guns are changing the face of the Republican party and giving us a new road map back to the American dream.

“I don’t think the dems have a say”

Not only do they have a say, they have 214 firm votes of the needed 218 to choose the Speaker.

You are making a very high risk bet that they can’t find the 4 RINOs they need to keep Pelosi. How many of McCarthy’s 188 votes can you promise to elect a MAGA Speaker? You will need them all.

Actually, all she needs is a dozen or fewer Rinos to defect.

How can he be the Republican nominee if the Republican caucus won't vote for him for Speaker?

He won the GOP nomination vote by a 188-31 margin.

188 votes was more than enough to be nominated by the GOP, but is nowhere near enough to be elected Speaker.

Why is this a mystery to anyone?

If McCarthy is defeated Pelosi or Hakeem Jeffries will be the next Speaker.

The House vote for Speaker is not a plurality vote, it is a majority vote.

If nobody reaches 218, it goes to a second or more rounds until someone does.

“ but can choose our leader”

The Speaker is not the Republican leader (if by we/us/our) you mean the GOP.

Yes, we certainly can do better.

Trick is, any voting bloc of what, four or five Republicans can knock any given person out of consideration.

It really does need to be someone who has not pulled any of the same Mitch-like hsit that Kevin just did in the election.

In practical terms, it will have to be someone that practically all the Republicans can support. Possible recipe for another @$$#013 like Ryan, or... hold out hope for someone who just knows how to play his position and get along with everyone.

Time will tell.

Funny how we are always expected to vote for the establishment republicans and to take one for the team. The establishment is never told that they must support the conservative candidate and that they must think of the big picture. The one way street has to end somewhere.

Why is this a mystery to anyone?

The mystery is why he would take it to the roll-call vote knowing he won't win?

McCarthy either needs to negotiate with the 31 holdouts for committee assignments or rules changes, or work within the caucus to find someone who can get to 218 before the House roll-call vote.

I don't think McCarthy wants the embarrassment of being rejected on the first vote.

The mystery is why he would take it to the roll-call vote knowing he won't win?

What else would you expect him to do? It’s not like there’s another GOP House member out there who can get even 100 votes for Speaker right now, let alone 218.

The House is required under the Constitution to elect a Speaker. Delaying indefinitely until you have secured 218 votes is not an option.

Aww shucks, and Kevin was going to read the Constitution on his first day as speaker. Because, well it’s always all about symbolism over substance with guys like McCarthy. He thinks if he reads the Constitution out loud in the chamber that everyone will think he’s really making a profound statement. That this time the Rs are really going to be led by our constitution. Which is a laugh because Congress is light years away from Constitutional, because of the leadership of both parties. No one needs Kevin to read the Constitution as a prop.

This is a big dilemma. A Trump MAGA type would not have the support of any Democrats and only a subset of the Republican caucus.

With those numbers, a McCarthy might be the best option, and he doesn’t have the votes.

We could then end up with someone far more liberal between a Democrat and RINO collusion…
