Most people don’t realize the historical connection between the Vikings and Kiev.

Back when they were protesting (and then fighting) during the “revolution” in Keiv about 8(?) years ago I noticed the statue in the town square. “Why - those guys look like Vikings!”.

So I stated doing some research - and yes they were. The Vikings invaded what at the time was a bunch of various tribes. The Vikings got them under control and got them into a type of government together rather than fighting iirc. I think the Vikings did it in a fairly civil manner, establishing laws but also adopting local customs, etc. The Vikings are considered the Founders of Ukraine.
