Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene expressed support for Rep. Kevin McCarthy's bid for House speaker . Greene criticized the possibility of fellow conservative Republicans challenging McCarthy . "Well, I actually think that's a bad strategy," she said on Monday.
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene on Monday expressed support for Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy's bid for House speaker as rumors swirl about the Republican conference's hard-line conservative wing mounting a challenge against him.
"Well, I actually think that's a bad strategy when we're looking at having a very, razor-thin majority, with potentially 219. We're talking about one vote," Greene said on Steve Bannon's "War Room" podcast about reports of House Freedom Caucus Republicans, such as Rep. Andy Biggs of Arizona, considering challenging McCarthy.
Midterm results are still trickling in, though Republicans appear on track to control the House. McCarthy, widely seen as the frontrunner for the top post, needs 218 votes to earn the speakership come January 3, 2023, when the new Congress begins. But, under a likely narrow majority, McCarthy would need to win over almost every Republican, including members of the influential House Freedom Caucus, to become speaker.
"It's very, very risky right now to produce a leadership challenge, especially for speaker of the House," Greene said, warning that some moderate Republicans could join Democrats and propose outgoing Rep. Liz Cheney of Wyoming as speaker. Cheney, a staunch critic of former President Donald Trump, lost her reelection, but could technically become House speaker if she receives enough votes, though such a move is uncommon.

sorry cut and pasted wrong
That’s a shame.
Trump, run or not, win or not, is a short-term factor. He is not going to make any change which cannot be undone.
You could do more good staying in the process and promoting America 1st type candidates.
Pray about it and do what you think best for the nation.
I would only help the party if the party helped itself, and started listening to its constituents. They've shown their disdain for America First candidates. That isn't going to change anytime soon. The leadership is arrogant, and thinks we're too stupid to know what we want. They're as bad as the Democrats who think they know what's good for us.
She says. Why?
“They’ve shown their disdain for America First candidates.”
I agree.
Give to and support candidates, not the party.
Of course not. That requires a set of balls and courage. No one in the Stupid Party ever had courage. Right now the Stupid Party is making sure none of the Rats are mad at them.
Who we gonna believe?
MM or swirl?
LOL.
Interesting that RPOTUS Trump also supports McCarthy-Luntz. And, now, MTG.
The guy nauseates me, honestly. I’ve met him...on a few occasions. (McCarthyLuntz)..and, am NOT impressed.
To say 'No', she'd have to believe he'd be defeated.
No matter the size of the R majority, the theory still holds. Split the R vote and D's vote in Pelosi. Science.
Shhhh, their heads will explode
“Who we gonna believe?
MM or swirl?”
Prior War Room episodes are online.
Yesterday in the 5-6 pm hour (War Room Pandemic), MTG was adamant in her support for McCarthy. I have to admit, it sounded “off” to me; why would she take that position?
Then in the 6-7 pm hour (War Room Battlefield), Gaetz was equally adamant about getting rid of McCarthy.
And you’re right: Trump in favor of McCarthy is quite disturbing. What’s up with that?! Sometimes he makes me wonder. And I don’t think it’s 4D chess.
That is not correct. You need 218 votes to become speaker. Pelosi will not get 218 votes. She would need 100% of Ds and a few Rs to vote for her.
What could happen is the Ds could whip all of the Ds to vote for Liz Cheney or another never Trumper and a few of the Rs might also vote for them.
"NOT" is a very strong word here.
You seem to think a scenario where all Democrats would vote for Liz Cheney is more likely than a scenario where a few Republicans would vote for Nancy Pelosi. I wouldn't be so sure of that.
And that bloviating buffoon Matt Gaetz will either vote for McCarthy, or -- if his vote isn't needed in a close race -- he'll abstain from voting.
“There’s nothing nefarious going on here.”
There isn’t, or wasn’t, a moment in time when nothing nefarious was going on in DC.
It's a leadership vote in a major political party. MTG would have been singing a different tune if the Republicans had a 30-seat margin over the Democrats. They don't.
