I suppose this could very well happen. I remember when Spiro Agnew resigned and Nixon made Ford VP. Nixon then resigned and left Ford as president. Ford appointed Rockefeller as VP, thus giving the US both a president and vice president which NEITHER had been elected by the people.

Ditching Harris could be as easy as standing up for the requirement to be a native born US citizen. Her parents were foreigners present on student visas. Neither had the capacity to confer US citizenship. It's a Pandora's box to pursue the argument as many foreigners purposely travel to the US to give birth as a means to secure a US citizen. To disqualify Harris opens the door to removing others who have been called citizens for no reason beyond having been born on US soil.
