Agnes sure did a lot of damage for a Cat 1 storm back in 1972.
I remember being at PGA business school in 1990 and a PGA pro from somewhere in SC was talking about merchandising. He brought a half dozen dirty shirts, a few sweaters, and a few broken putters and wedges. He said that was what was left of his golf shop after Hugo.
I can see why I was complacent before Andrew living in SoFla. Relatively calm during the late 80’s.
2004 was just ridiculous for us in Northern PB County. Jeanne was the final insult when she did a loop to loop in the Atlantic and headed right for us while we were still all boarded up (and many w/out power) from Frances. I went 18 days w/out it. It was hot.
Great list. Thanks for posting.

None in 1862-1864? Did Mother Nature feel sorry for us? Did someone compile a separate list of Confederate hurricanes?

At the bottom of the post under 'Additional Note': "Because of the sparseness of towns and cities before 1900 in some coastal locations along the United States, the above list is not complete for all states. Before the Gulf of Mexico and Atlantic coasts became settled, hurricanes may have been underestimated in their intensity or missed completely for small-sized systems (i.e., 2004’s Hurricane Charley). The following list provides estimated dates when accurate tropical cyclone records began for specified regions of the United States based upon U.S Census reports and other historical analyses."

The average dumb ass on the street that listens to all the alarmism must think we have a million more hurricanes these days.
To: FactReal
Doesn’t look like it’s getting worse. I mean, shouldn’t it have tripled since 1850s? Due to all that Global Warming I’ve heard so much about?
