Ultimately, the purpose of this website is educational: to chart communism's human-rights violations in a format in which its horrors can quickly and accessibly be comprehended.

Communisms crimes are not even taught in schools!
In my ideal world, “The Gulag Archipelago” would be required reading in all high schools.
You wouldn't get more than a few high schoolers to read a book of any substance.
A half a billion people are probably going to starve to death because 6 years ago, Team Obama convinced the Banks to shift lending from Oil and Gas drilling to green energy firms.
Now the lack of fossil fuel fertilizer is going to collapse crop yields across the globe.

Thank for posting.
However, I think murders by Stalin, Mao and Hitler are underrepresented.

Hell, even here on FR Freepers still refer to the communists as democrats, progressives, socialists, or leftists...
No wonder the communists are rolling right over us without serious resistance...
Yes, R.J. Rummel is pretty much the definitive source.
The Ashley Babbitt murder on Jan 6 should be counted as a crime against humanity.
I’ve previously posted about it but it wasn’t until I was about twenty years out of high school (mid 80s grad) that I came to appreciate my flyover public school teachers. There are several people and events that left lasting impacts:
One had been 20 when he liberated a Nazi camp. He brought in a couple dozen black and white 8x10s they used for documentation. His testimony and the photos made it real to us- and he pleaded with us to always remember and be vigilant.
In honors world literature seminar, we had a Russian segment where we read “The Gulag Archipelago” and “One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich.” It was dreary and difficult and everyone really kind of hated it but our teacher was passionate about it.
Our civics teacher had us watch “The Day After” but also arranged a theater screening of “The Killing Fields” after Dith Pran had an impromptu assembly at our school. Pran had given a talk at a college the previous night. Our teacher met him there and convinced him to come to our class. I think our teacher bought a couple dozen of the books as he offered us extra credit if we read/reported on them as well.
Our American history teacher brought in a Viet Nam veteran to talk about his experience and put some perspective on the fall of Saigon on its ten year anniversary. A couple of years later (when my brother was in her class) she brought in a veteran of ‘the Root’ who talked about the Beirut bombing.
Of course, it wasn’t all great: The band director was a barely functioning alcoholic, a coach was dating a cheerleader, an administrator’s kid smoked a lot of pot, we lost a couple of kids too soon, and the librarian was often sound asleep…
I have several conservative “non- revisionist” books with info amd estimates compiled from Russian and Ukraine, which place the number of internal Soviets killed from Lenin Bolsheviks through Andropov between 57 to 60 million dead.
So not sure if “war” includes internal “revolutions” (i.e.Marxist Russian *White Revolution) or not.
There is some disagreement between leftist revisionists of course, but there were very likely 8 to 9 million deliberately starved to death in Russia, and very probably 11.5 to 14 million starved to death in Ukraine, and the 1932-1933 Holodomor, which also targeted Jews BEFORE WWII.
A few Ukrainian statistician’s who were also murdered before 1938, have placed the number closer to between 18 and 20 million in Ukraine alone, but noted the deliberate ongoing effort to make copies of records, as the Stalin ordered the destruction of those same birth and any death records.
This does not account for all of the many millions of Ukrainians especially, as well as other CCCP states populations which were rounded up across Eastern Europe and who died either enroute, or at prison camps all across the CCCP.

I have had 2 Chinese Mandarin professor’s teach that Mao’s internal revolutions killed between 97 to 110 million Chinese alone.
This didn’t count the related Moscow supported Communist revolutions throughout Southeast Asia, which originally began in 1922 to 1924 timeframe, and included Mao Zedong being hand picked by V.I. Lenin to lead Communost Revolution across what he hoped would be the entirety of East Asia.
So just CCCP and CCP alone likely forceably and gruesomely ended the lives of between 155 to 160 million people in roughly a 70 year span.
This does not count CCP and CCCP forced abortion.
These numbers too are whitewashed, but officially, CCP has killed roughly 750 million babies. Of the near 280 million CCCP babies officially murdered (aga in n leftist revisionists have stepped in to whitewash), the number of state forced abortion was likely lower than 75 million.
Again, none of these numbers count WWI, WWII. or other communist led revolutions in other countries around the world.

I too read “One Day in the Live of Ivan Denisovich” and can recommend it to everyone.
I heard of the movie “The Killing Fields.” For a long time, I avoided it as I thought it would just be too depressing. Then I thought it was the rare anti-communist movie and that I should watch it. I watched it and concluded that my pre-conceptions were wrong. It was neither so depressing, nor so anti-communist.
It seemed like an odd film to me, with a foreground and a background. Anti-communist elements are there, but in the background. Sam Waterston is in the protagonist and therefore is in the foreground. We see and hear him speaking.
For example, he states that so and so says that if the communists win, the streets will flow red with blood. We don’t get to see the person saying those words, so they are in the background. Waterston, foreground, responds “but who can blame them?”
Can you imagine a Hollywood film that indirectly warns of violence if the Nazis come to power, but then says directly, “but who can blame them?”
There have been two anti-communist films recently. I wouldn’t categorize either as a Hollywood production. “Mr. Jones” is very good and I recommend it highly.
“Katyn” is about the Katyn forest massacre of Polish military officers. Covering the prelude to the event, the event, and the aftermath, it has a lot of content for one film
Mr. Jones may cover the murders somewhat lightly, so we can watch it. Katyn provides more dismal material. As such it is truer to the truth, but harder to watch.
A good Anti-Communist movie is a Russian movie from a few years ago “Dear Comrades”.
Thanks! It’s available on HULU and I’ve added it to my list.
Another recent movie is “The Death of Stalin.” It’s described as a comedy, which seems odd, as would a comedic look at Hitler. It has its comic moments, but clearly it is a dark comedy. Though a little genre bending, I liked it.
If I recall right, Khrushchev work on a joke every day to tell Stalin and his inner circle. When he gets home, he tells his wife if that joke worked on not, and she records that into their notebook. A good joke can be repeated at a later date. A bad joke just might get Khrushchev executed.
After Stalin dies, everyone in the inner circle vies to be his successor. Ultimately the funny man wins out.
It’s on YouTube, there is also the movie “Stalin” with Robert Duvall.
I liked it also. Any director that casts Steve Buscemi as Kruschev has got to have a developed sense of humor. Jason Issacs as Georgy Zhukov was hilarious as well.
BTW the Germans (of all people) made a dark comedy about Hitler a few years ago, Look Who’s Back, I think its named. Worth seeing, as well.
