I’ve compared the Woke and politically correct to a flock of vicious birds that will tear apart any bird not seeming sufficiently like them so that even among themselves they loudly squawk (virtue signal) their conformity to whatever the flock seems to be doing at the moment, is I think key to understanding how an irrational process among ever more irrational people must lead to oppression and tyranny.
The socioempath, the opposite to sociopaths, is what drives the whole irrational process.
I propose that they, socioempaths, are a very real thing and are far more dangerous than sociopaths because where trying to get sociopaths together may be like trying to herd cats, for they do not as a rule find common cause, when it comes to socioempaths they not only effortlessly flock together in common cause, they will gravitate based on the current state of the virtue-signalverse to the role of fellow traveller, able to advance the zeitgeist even if not being actively led.

I would go so far as to say that these have accomplished something truly novel in the annals of human experience by becoming self oppressing, for they need neither government or organization to oppress their own as they brow beat each other endlessly. And as the whole process is irrational it is expected that it should be driven to the looniest version of whatever is fashionable to believe at the moment.
I think this helps to explain how people have totally lost their minds over genderism right now, for example.
At some point the character, the persona assumed, and the person can exchange places, like with the puppeteer and the puppet in that one CS Lewis story. When this happens the puppet persona, now dominant, can be expected to be a hollow, unreal thing for it was made by the person it devoured. Which also stacks up to how the Woke can behave … for they may not even seem real at all compared to our memories of them on the forums from years ago.
Now, to your post, just because they do not need government or organizations to oppress each other in their proverbial flock of foul fowl, they do need and must predictably co-opt any organization they can seize if they are to oppress others ... which they view as trying to either help us be better people or prevent us deplorable people from acting out our badness.
Unlike ordinary despots who, per CS Lewis, tire and have days off the folks who want to harm us (for our own good) are tireless in their wickedness and depravity, and likewise tireless in their corruption and long train of abuses.
One can better understand then how Marxism and all the vile things it has produces is really the perfect opiate for the masses and elites alike, for in nurturing perpetual grievances and emotions that constantly break over the banks to flood out rationality it all allows something akin to salvationistic zeal that is completely lacking in any of that unwanted repentance or righteousness guff.
