If I were a contract employee and scheduled a meeting with the board of directors to discuss my screwup, how long should the board wait after the promised time before letting that person go ?

I remember at the time thinking Shumer is terrified of the Deep State himself, as whatever they do to Trump they can also do to him and anyone who dares to challenge what is essentially a shadow government.
