“It is nonsense in the fact that it is for nothing.”
Well, not for nothing. It tells China Americans still have the right to travel freely, to any country or territory they want, unless they are denied entry by THAT country or THAT territory. It also sends a signal that the US is not ready to abandon Taiwan. Other than that, it was nonsense. I mean, if I were SOTH I wouldn’t have made the trip, because I think there are other, subtler ways to go about it. But, the message would have been the same. Look, China was going to make a move like this no matter what we did or didn’t do; it’s been in the works for a long time (a massive exercise such as this takes time, planning, and preparation; it’s not something that can be thrown together in four days).
She can go wherever she wants, just not at our expense, to deliberately cause trouble, and to waste the time and risk the lives of our military people. I wonder what the carbon footprint of all those ships and jets is? An absolute waste of resources just so that old bat could get a photo op and another free vacation.
“She can go wherever she wants, just not at our expense.”
Unfortunately, if she can make the argument that the trip involves national business, or national interests, or is in any way government related, she gets to go on our dime. Most congressional trips are frivolous, but the law allows it.
