WaPo Columnist Explains Why the Media Is to Blame for Biden's Downfall
PJ Media ^ | 19 July 2022 | Rick Moran

To hear Washington Post columnist Perry Bacon tell it, Joe Biden’s low approval ratings aren’t due to his ludicrous policies, his failed leadership, or his cockamamie worldview.

Joe Biden isn’t very popular because of the way the mainstream media is covering him.

The lack of self-awareness notwithstanding, Bacon blames the media because its “flawed coverage model of politics and government is bad for more than just Biden — it results in a distorted national discourse that weakens our democracy. The media needs to find a different way to cover Washington.”

Get that? Biden’s unpopularity is a structural problem with the media that has nothing to do with politics or policy.

It all started during the withdrawal fiasco from Afghanistan.

Biden’s poll numbers plunged, closely tracking the media hysteria. As The Post’s Dana Milbank wrote in December, data analysis showed a marked increase in negativity in media coverage of Biden that started last August. After the withdrawal, the media lumped other events into its “Biden is struggling” narrative: infighting among Democrats over the party’s agenda, Democrats’ weak performances in the New Jersey and Virginia gubernatorial races, rising inflation, and the surge of the delta and omicron variants. Biden’s role in these issues was often exaggerated — there are many causes of inflation besides Biden’s policies; presidents can’t stop the emergence of coronavirus variants. This anti-Biden coverage pattern remains in place.

Bacon mentions Dana Milbank — the previous winner of the “Blame anyone or anything but Biden” award. Milbank’s entry was titled “The media treats Biden as badly as — or worse than — Trump. Here’s proof.”

ROTFLMAO!

Oh yeah, you know how right leaning the media is and how they just savage Dems. Oh wait I forgot what universe I was in.

Or lipstick on a pig. Come to think of it, if you put lipstick on a pig I bet Uncle Touchy’d smell its hair.

The urban media that has been playing “gotcha gotcha Republican President” since Nixon, had better stop preaching to the urban choir.

They need to tell the truth to urban America, which is your economic gravy train will soon be taking a hit, so keep your head on straight.

Global producers are already strained with current demand, there is no way in hell more urbanization is going to solve our labor & supply chain issues.

Can you imagine if Biden got treated the way Trump was by the media? He’d be in single digit popularity.

So they’re complaining that the the media is only flacking for a Democrat 90% as much as the media usually does. It must be just so hard for a Democrat politician when the media isn’t rah-rahing full force for him. /s

In the post-Trump era, leaders at CNN, the New York Times and other major outlets have emphasized that they don’t want to be perceived as more aligned with the Democrats.

OMG^3

This is akin a 500 lbs man emphasizing his commitment to physical fitness.

These people really imagine that can write anything and have credibility because of the masthead of their employer.

That’s funny. If this concept were true, Donald Trump would have been the first President with 0% approval, yet he’s recognized as the best conservative president since Reagan. The media is max that they can’t always sell their own lies. This is scary.

No one, except maybe Sarah Palin, were treated by the media as biased, unprofessional and mean spirited as Trump.

Any lie, assumption, unfounded accusation passed the fact checkers. Hahaha

My favorite is still how Trump went to hotels and had prostitutes urinate in beds where Obama slept.... Hey, remember the crazy woman that accused him of groping her on a commercial flight (the MSM ran with it as a FACT until an eye witness came fourth and completely discredited the story). Of course there was Russian collusion and the MSM didn’t have time to cover an ILLEGAL FISA wiretap on Trump tower which actually did happen!!! Anything, was fair game. His wife, his son... Suddenly expression of free speech included severed heads, jokes about assassinations... He was a racist, sexist, in bed with Russia, hired prostitutes, was actually bankrupt, mentally ill. BTW, where are the stories on the obviously mentally healthy Biden? Where are the calls for a mental test?

Nahhh, no media bias... (Sarc)

What a laugh-a-minute throughout!

presidents can’t stop the emergence of coronavirus variants.

Do they think we don't have any memory, that we are all as demented as the Demented One? "I'm going to 'shut down the virus', not the country."

Without the media there would be no President Biden, no 5.00 plus gas, no out of control inflation, no defeat in Afghanistan, 100’s if not 1000’s of human beings would be alive on our southern border, vaccine mandates for a vaccine that does not work, and the list goes on and on.

I wish more voters would recognize the absolute truth and turn them off.

If they told me it was going to be clear and sunny I would pack an umbrella. They have been wrong about everything.

LOL. Unless the legacy media is leaping up and down and wildly cheerleading 24/7/365 for a D president (see: Obama, Barak) then it’s to blame for everything that goes wrong.

Washington Post columnist Perry Bacon is completely right. It’s all good. The Democrats just need to embrace Biden for the midterms. It’s just bad media coverage or something.

Suddenly.
Now.
We just noticed.
But only in this instance.

“Bacon blames the media because its “flawed coverage model of politics and government is bad — it results in a distorted national discourse that weakens our democracy. “
