One of the hallmarks of a bully, of a cruel human being, is attacking people who don't always have the political power or resources to defend themselves. We saw a good example of this in 2019, when the Trump administration, in a remarkably cold move, attempted to kill federal funding for the Special Olympics.
If you've never seen the Special Olympics, which gives athletes with certain intellectual disabilities the opportunity to compete in several different events, it is a remarkable thing to watch. These Olympics don't just represent the best of sports. They represent the best of humanity.
The motto of the Special Olympics is: “Let me win, but if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt.” So, with cruelty, coldness and exuberant indifference being the genome of the Trump Era, it wasn't a surprise when billionaire Betsy DeVos, former U.S. Secretary of Education, proposed cutting the $17.6 million budget of the Special Olympics. Reported The Washington Post at the time: “Do you know how many kids are going to be affected by that cut?" Rep. Mark Pocan (D-Wis.) asked DeVos at a House hearing. DeVos replied that she didn't. “I’ll answer for you,” he said. “It's 272,000 kids.” The cruelty was the point then.
Fast forward to just a few years later and another bully. The cruelty is also the point now when it comes to the actions of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis. It is true that DeSantis' cruelty and white nationalist-adjacency go beyond attacking the vulnerable. He attacks corporations and Major League Baseball teams. His actions, however, involving the Special Olympics are particularly awful.

Mike Freeman would likely qualify as a participant in the special Olympics. The board members, however, would not. No one is being bullied.

DeSantis is threatening to fine the Special Olympics that are being held in Florida for forcing contestants to get vaccinated for covid-19.
“Bullying” is thus defined as standing up for the rights of people to choose for themselves which medical treatments (or non-medical in this case) that people endure.
Telling the participants you have to take this shot, in order to play, now that is bullying.
So, during the Trump administration, they attempted to cut the funding.
DeVos explains that donations to said Olympics are more than enough to cover the costs…..
But she also said at first that the philanthropic support the organization gets renders federal funding for the Special Olympics unnecessary. “The Special Olympics is an awesome organization, one that is well supported by the philanthropic sector, as well,” she told Rep. Mark Pocan, a Wisconsin Democrat.
If I’m reading this correctly, they’re getting donations and public money. Wonder what the bookkeeping says about where all that money is going. Use FedGov to pay the bills, pocket all the donations as bonuses for a job well done or vice versa.
Either way, I’m thinking a deep dive into the finances would reveal some amazing graft and corruption.
Bigger question to me is why is the government funding any athletic events?

Correlary: Bullying defintely does NOT equal forcing people to get an experimental medical treatment they do not want and penalizing them by banning from from basic acivities and services if they refuse to do it. Nope, definitely not bullying. Forcing people to stop doing that is what bullying is!

The truth here is that DeSantis is negating the mandate that all participants be Covid-vaccinated in order to partipate in these events. You want to get vaxxed, more power to you. If not, you cannot be forced.
