Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett has told the head of the UN’s nuclear watchdog that the Jewish state is ready to use its “right to self-defense” to prevent Iran from achieving nuclear weapons.
In a meeting with IAEA chief Rafael Grossi on June 3 in Jerusalem, Bennett accused Tehran of deceiving the world about its atomic activities. Bennett “expressed Israel’s deep concern regarding Iran’s continued progress toward achieving nuclear weapons while deceiving the international community by using false information and lies,” his office said in a statement.
The Israeli leader “emphasized the urgent need in mobilizing the international community to take action against Iran, using all means, in order to prevent Iran from achieving nuclear weapons.”
Bennett’s warning comes amid stalled efforts to revive a 2015 nuclear deal between Iran and world powers aimed at preventing Iran from developing atomic weapons. The landmark deal lifted most sanctions in exchange for Iran’s curbing its nuclear activities.
The deal collapsed after President Donald Trump withdrew the United States from the agreement and reinstated biting sanctions on Iran.
Efforts by the administration of President Joe Biden to revive the deal began in Vienna in April last year but have since fizzled out.
Grossi’s visit came after the global nuclear watchdog on May 30 said it still had questions that were “not clarified” despite long-running efforts to get Iran to explain the presence of nuclear material at three undeclared sites.
Bennett said Israel prefers diplomacy but “reserves the right to self-defense and to action against Iran in order to block its nuclear program should the international community not succeed in the relevant time frame.”
Israel was a staunch opponent of the 2015 nuclear deal and welcomed the Trump administration’s unilateral withdrawal from the agreement.
Israel is widely believed to be the only atomic power in the Middle East but the country refuses to confirm or deny that it has nuclear weapons.
I don't recall NATO gearing up to attack Russia.
“IIRC NATO was formed as more of a defensive move against the Soviet Union. I’m sure there was a scenario where NATO would move first, but I think the primary concern was the Soviet Union making a move on Western Europe.”
We agree. NATO was initially formed as a defense against the USSR. As with any government/bureaucratic program it takes on its own life and that is exactly what happened to NATO. USSR went away big time in the 90s.
Today NATO is an aggressive military operation. Actually, it might be best to say that NATO is an extension of the US military since we pay the largest amount of any member. In most cases, orders of magnitude more!
So, the US controls NATO. It’s the golden rule. He who has the gold makes the rules.
At the fall of the USSR NATO had 16 member countries and the US (Secretary Baker) promised no further NATO expansion if the Soviets gave up East Germany. They did — we didn’t
In 1982 there were 16 NATO members. By 2020 there were 30 NATO members! Only 100% expansion/growth! You may not call that aggressive or breaking one’s promise, but most do — including the Russians.
Here is a shortlist of the military actions taken by NATO:
-Bosnia
-Yugoslavia
-Bosnia and Herzegovina
-Kosovo & Serbia
-N. Macedonia
-Afghanistan
-Somalia
-Yemen
-Libya
By the way, none of these were Article 5 defensive operations. In fact, they were invasions! Many of them not connected to Europe in any way.
This list does not include the deep state meddling in many, many other countries to bring about regime change (like Biden stated about Russia). The Maidan revolution in Ukraine in 2014, the Arab spring in the middle east, and many others around the world. Invasions by stealth. That’s what it is.
And finally, NATO/US has placed missiles on the Russian border countries and they made public announcements that Ukraine could join NATO. How do you think we would react if China placed missiles pointed toward us in Canada and Mexico? Remember the Cuban missile crisis??
What the heck do you expect Putin to do in dealing with the aggressor?? He gave them a written outline of what it would take to settle this peacefully which was summarily dismissed. Putin would be a fool to ignore what he sees with his own two eyes.
So now he’s going to settle it his way and he seems to be doing a pretty good job at it.
I think we can agree the whole thing is a mess.
“I think we can agree the whole thing is a mess.”
On that, we agree 100%! I honestly believe this is the biggest mess the Xiden’s have gotten us into. It has the potential of causing a sea-change in our hegemony. One half of the world (by population) may end up with their own trading and military block and we lose out. The biggest potential impact is the loss of the dollar as the world’s currency. It may be a while but this may be the beginning.
I’m afraid our kids will be dealing with this fiasco when their hair turns grey.
Good luck :-)!

I’m afraid our kids will be dealing with this fiasco when their hair turns grey.
Well let’s hope that nothing will happen in the meantime, triggered by some war mongering crooked idiots in the WEST, going full ape and prevent our kid’s hair from turning gray, in a peaceful manner due to age.
