Back in the 70s when I was a teenager I was hitch hiking all over the country. I was frequently hit on by homosexuals. None were asking for ID. Same thing happened to me. When I was 17 I drove this beat up Dodge dart that would constantly break down and this was back in the 1980s when we had no cellphones.
