It’s a very common disease among elected republicans. They’re so afraid of being called “racists” that they feel obligated to appoint unqualified incompetents like this to inoculate themselves against that attack. Of course it doesn’t work - they’re labeled racists regardless.
There’s no more powerful weapon in the Rats arsenal than that word. The mere possibility of being labeled that sends 99% of elected republicans scurrying for cover and asking for mercy.... and the more they do that, the more that word is thrown at them.
