As much as I don’t mind seeing the Russians get their noses bloodied, I take no joy in young men on a burning ship. If it were them or me, I would rather it would be them.
A good book that well describes the violence of naval warfare is “Neptune’s Inferno” by James Hornfischer dealing with the naval battles around the Solomon Islands in the second half of 1942 when the US and Japanese fleets still had a degree of parity.
