“Hunter was a commissioned officer for a short time. Such certificates would come with access to DoD email.”

I certainly do not understand how this stuff works but as a Mil Contractor I have a CAC (Common Access Card) and have certificates on my computer. I have access to one DOD system computer for my job. But my expiration date coincides with the end date of my contract date.

Very informative. Expiration dates are important.

The computer must be given by DoD, not your personal computer???
The key should be valid on DoD property. I’m just curious.

The expiration date on a root cert doesn’t have anything to do with you, though. If you are on a Windows computer, run “certmgr” and examine some of the certs under “Trusted Root Certification Authorities” (right-click and select “Open”). I did; every root cert I looked at had validity periods of 25 to 30 years.
