Hyperbole. He doesn’t have “the hammer” to drop.
Speaking of self-interest, here’s what I think...
In reality, McConnell knows that few Republicans will vote for her, so few that he would stand out in such a small crowd. That would put him at risk of losing his position of power over the caucus and McConnell will never do anything that could make him an average Senator in his final years on Capitol Hill.
But there’s an even bigger reason he can vote against her. When she’s confirmed, he’ll be able to fundraise off of it. That’s the big prize to someone like McConnell who has built a successful career as fundraising powerbroker extraordinaire. His control over the most powerful Senate PACs in the land mean his reach will extend long past his retirement.
He never hated Obamacare. He loved it because of the funds he was able to raise from it. That’s why he was able to pass countless bills to repeal or defund it when Barack Obama was in the Oval Office to veto it, but he couldn’t send a single bill to President Trump. EVERYTHING McConnell does is calculated and self-serving.
I believe Romney is already announced as a “yes”.
Hmm...well...didn't know that part of the story. We'll see.
Ultimately academic unless there are some Democrats who are going to vote against her nomination. 51-50 is still a confirmation even if GOP opposition is unanimous, which is doubtful.
I just wanted to know if that RINO POS, can say what he thinks he needs to say in public, then vote FOR the beyotch in a secret vote?
Really looks like a poor nomination
a judge who totally and intentionally ignores the instructions of a certain law leading to reversal by the NINTH CIRCUIT is seriously off the rails. a ‘no’ doesn’t even say enough.
Biologist??? Back in the old misogynist days of the 1970s, we used to say “pull their pants down and see who they really are”. Normally used to define whether you were looking at a real blonde or a bottle blonde.
There was fraud all over, they stole house seat too for sure. The problem is those Senators are now seated and only the Senate can vote them out. There will be no recall as far as anyone can see for the state level. Does Georgia even have in their constitution the ability to recall a sitting Senator? If not then the serve their full terms or it takes their fellow U.S. Senators to kick them out which as the dems have the majority they won’t. So it’s all theater they know they have the votes using the Reid rule and then intend to do just that use the “nuclear” option which always and forever should be called the Reid rule. Doesn’t make it right but it is how it is. The GOP needs to get a 60+ majority in the Senate to undo the Reid rule they won’t as they like to use it too.
Yep.
Say what you want, McConnell has been brilliant when it comes to blocking judges. This is one area where he excels.
But how many Democrats are going to vote against her?
“It’s hard to imagine any of the Republicans on the Senate Judiciary Committee voting for her”
It’s hard to imagine any sentient decent human being voting for her.
RE: But how many Democrats are going to vote against her?
I would say zero. I might hold out some hope for Joe Manchin but no, I’m not going to hold my breathe.
He’ll oppose it as long as he thinks his vote will make no difference,
I certainly did. Those two execrable LOSERS who ran for the repugnicant ticket and of course, the Stable Genius in charge, who just lost because of fraud didn't even think of POSTPONING the election to try and better secure the Senate election. I get more angry and disappointed every day over the utter incompetence. So much depended on a re-election, and they BLEW IT.
Romney and Cassidy and Collins will get her through.
No
They wont do secret votes on this
Its a scotus pick, they dont hide on such a huge issue
Further dems want the publicity for voting for her
And they also want to weaponize votes against her as a race or woman issue
