I’ll just go by the Headline.

I am also highly against employer executions.

They brought back executions at Google? Post covid I guess. Gates’ and M$soft’s are usually
more sacrifices to Baal and Bahomet. Amazon just makes you work in one of their regional warehouses, abandon all hope, yee who enter the house of Bezos. MwaaHaa’aaa!

Google’s annual employee surveys, internally called “Googlegeist,” show that a growing number of staffers don’t view their pay packages as fair or competitive with what they could make in a similar role elsewhere.

A lot of this might have to do with the fact that many Google employees don't want to head back to the office and are considering ditching Mountain View and heading out of state and working remotely permanently. Google probably is going to ask those who they even permit to do this to take pay cuts.

Something's going to give and my bet is that something will be Google. Either that or they're going to lose a lot of employees.

“The ability to execute”..Perhaps that phrase doesn’t mean what they think it means.

Pay and promotions are difficult in these economic times so increase the executions.

I question anything based on an employee survey. Scott Adams, author of the 'Dilbert' series, has great takes on what such surveys are really for.

A non-anonymous survey, and almost all of them are, is useless at best.

This is sheer speculation, but it would be interesting to see a much more detailed breakout of the crosstabs on such a survey at Google or other hyper woke companies. These people aren’t stupid (although some of them are so woke it can be hard to tell). A substantial proportion of the skilled worker bee types are very much aware that they are in racial or gender groups that are being systematically discriminated against. They can’t say anything publicly without adverse consequences, and that is another grievance. But when pay, promotions, project assignments and career growth are heavily influenced by the intersectional bonus scoring system ... well, an anonymous survey (if you are confident that it is in fact anonymous) might be the only place to sound off.

Dissatisfaction with execution is trickier but could well be related. In this case, some of the problem (and maybe most of it) would have to do with size and rapid growth. Google is much too big to be nimble and quick. Industry leaders become targets for more agile newcomers, which is why the period of ascendancy is usually fairly short. (”Fairly short” is a relative term; decades are the correct unit of measurement.) But execution will also suffer if promotions and assignments are heavily influenced by woke criteria. The genderfluid, post-Marxist MOC (manager of color) finds itself/herself trying to manage a staff of smarter, more capable, more experienced people — at least some of whom might even be sensible politically and (God forbid!) be married with children, or at least aspiring to that state — who all know why they were passed over for the promotion. Of course execution suffers. That happens when the skilled workers don’t respect the boss.

I’m sure we can find a way to speed up the executions if that’s what they want.

I remember the old days when they said it was a no no to bring up, early in your job interview, how much vacation and PTO you get. Now these kids lead with that, then they ask for a raise after you tell them the starting salary.
