When you have a hostage incident the prime objective is to end the situation peacefully with no harm to the hostages. If the hostage taker escalates the threat to the hostages or begins to physically harm them, that should trigger an assault. But if the hostages escape and are no longer in jeopardy and there are no other civilians at risk, there is no need to put the lives of SWAT officers in danger by conducting an armed assault. Anytime you are firing automatic weapons and using flash bang grenades in a confined space, the good guys can be wounded or killed. Using force is a last resort when all other options are closed.
The movie Joe Hoft posted this morning of the immediate moments before the assault was launched shows the hostages running from the building. You also see the failed hostage taker poke his head out the door with a pistol in his hand. Malik Akram was now alone in the synagogue. There was no need to kill him and put the lives of the HRT at risk.

The FBI should have taken their shotguns and fired them into the air, as Creepy Joe once advised.
Shooting’s easier than filling out paperwork.
Any trial would raised a lot of embarrassing questions about why he was allowed into the country, how he got a gun and selected that synagogue as a target, etc. There was probably a Islamist cell with many FBI informants that failed to act because of the institutional fear of being called racists or Islamophobes, plus the same at State, CIA, etc., etc.
Now the whole story will just disappear.

What if it was a false flag went wrong? They may have thought he was going to rage against a soft target. That would conveniently start the gun control argument. But it seems a little early for that, with midterms looming.
Many times these events are grouped and timed suspiciously near politically convenient times for gun control.
This story gets more bizarre each day.
When a local cop kills a suspect there are investigations and lots of attention from the press. When the Fed kills a suspect the story comes to a complete close.
The whole federal government should go...back to the 1950s days...
