The Texas Senator who has been morphing into a wolf like caricature, left himself naked to his enemies yesterday by his own choosing. After proclaiming the J6 protestors were “violent terrorists”, the articulating stutterer must have realized he stood on a political landmine.
Ted Cruz quickly appeared on Fox News with Tucker Carlson in an attempt to regain credibility. It’s interesting that Cruz chose the Tucker Carlson show for the effort, and it’s interesting that Carlson gave him the opportunity. However, the result was predictable. You cannot create authenticity where only inauthenticity exists. If you try, what you end up with is a hole digger that keeps digging. WATCH:
…”The more he spoke of his honor the faster we counted the spoons.”
Agreed. All.
That is the single best word to describe Ted: Oily.
The way he talks, the way he carries himself, the way he interacts with other people (not to mention his own family).
Not slick, like Bill Clinton.
But oily. Like a used-car salesman.
I watched both nights. It would have been best if Cruz simply said I made a horrible mistake using the word terrorist in this setting. I made the mistake and I own it and I apologize.
Little story for fellow Freepers:
Early in 2015, I spoke at a Young Americans for Freedom event in New Hampshire. The main draw was the Cruzer. I met him, gave him an autographed copy of Patriot’s History. Without even looking at it he handed it to an aide. Ok, no big deal, but that response in the past meant that the person was unfamiliar with the book. Not a good sign from someone supposedly very conservative. (Heck when I gave Karl “Tokyo” Rove the book at the White House he said “This one goes to my beach house. I keep my original in my office.”)
Then the Tedster spoke to the youts. It was an unimpressive speech, but one in which he outlined his “health care” initiative, which was medical savings accounts. In his speech, he touted as gigging the left a recent poster of him with biker-type “cuts,” tattoos, and smoking leaning against a motorcycle. In other words, here was a real rebel. An outsider.
The next day, I saw him again in the small NH airport waiting area, and we briefly talked. I told him that while I supported the POLICY of MSAs, I suggested politically it might be a loser because most voters barely have enough money to save. Proposing a policy where they have to save even more to get medical care wasn’t going to be very popular. He acted like he didn’t even know what I was talking bout.
I came away with all of my (admittedly anecdotal) encounters with him thinking he was not very insightful as a politician, not particularly inventive, and way too concerned with LOOKING like a rebel than with actually BEING one.
Not too much later, I saw Trump laying out his plans on television and that was the end of Cruz for me.
Yes.
Been too busy to find out what former Pro-Cruz Mark Levin has commented about all this. Possibly he is counseling Cruz to clean up his conservativism, and get his stuff together.
As far as that goes, Travis McGee’s excellent meme says what probably got him to these biddable self destructive statements: someone Cruz thinks “has the real deal in hand” steered him to self destruct by convincing him this will get approval from his “anti-Trump” base (which is non-existent. sort of like talking about why in the hell JoeBama gave in to his “Bernie Sanders” base- with the exception that all along a scum sucker like Biden has BEEN a Bernie Socialist, who has learned how to make money out of it all. Greed!).
Finally: in Cruz’s case he has an enormous ego trying to be recognized to be somebody—who needs to rethink that he already IS somebody important and very needed for Conservative values-not his Cubanadian potential globalist backers. He HAS done great acts with results as Solicitor General of Texas .... against the wave of Obamaumao Marxism (and obamaumao commented on Jan 6th too... with the actual base rhetoric copied by all others, including JoeBama and Nantzi— “the death of “our” democracy”— meaning the death of his 8 plus years of taking down our Republic for Marxism and profit!).
Political seppuku! Ted Cruz took the “Pence Plunge” and broke his political neck hitting the pool bottom.
opportunist rino

SAN ANTONIO — Texas Senator Ted Cruz is calling those who stormed and vandalized the Capitol terrorists, and said he was in no way responsible for the escalation.
Ted's daughter is only 13.
Just give her a couple of years.
Rather than “opportunistic rhino” I would say he is an opportunistic regular politician. There can be little doubt from his entire history that he is a solid right wing guy. He was so convinced that he had a shot at the top in 2016 until Trump jumped in that he has continued to play every bitter pill as a typical Congress Critter thinking he will elevate himself to that precipice again.
Ted needs to quit the Senate, go practice election law and achieve something and then in six years come back as someone who is fresh and accomplished something.
Great observations, LS! The “poseur” part of Cruz’s makeup was revealed to you in the “little things” he did. Having a strong need to “be important” (and he is important if he would take moment for true introspection and think about what he’s done and truly believes- if he does. This would require much more of what has been called EQ emotional quotient instead of “all IQ” and nothing people who have much less of either— will follow as a leader).
The ability to convert people to true Conservatism is an art, which many think is real easy, but it is not. Witness Rush Limbaugh... and the self convincing of his audience who numbered in legions of former lefties. Logic, intellect and emotional commonality of making up one’s own mind— clearly threatens the Leftist mindless mobocracy of Marxists (who, other than reactive anger they have to generate, really convince no one in the final endpoint- most of whom realize this all too late in the “game” when the criminal elite ends up running them).
“(which is also stupid because he doesn’t qualify via his lack of being a natural born citizen)”
Hasn’t stopped the Democrats lately. :)
“Better hope he is not politically dead. Leftist commies from around the nation/world will be pouring $$ millions $$ into the state of Texas to dethrone Ted Cruz in place of some leftist lunatic. You can count on it.”
Cruz won’t make it to the Nov. 2024 election (too much baggage now, at least for Texas), so that’s a non-issue. But I do agree, that the Democrats will be vicious in trying to take the seat, so we better have a STRONG candidate who can get out Trump’s supporters.
“Yep. He just opened the door for Beto just about as wide as it can go. And it’s all his own fault.”
Yes and no, he also opened it wide enough to be disposed of in the Primary. No doubt many conservatives here in Texas are salivating and no doubt I’ll be supporting one of them.
Great story that says it all, LS.
Thank you for posting.
Lyin’ Ted IS a typical politician.
Just now watched it.
I’m no Ted Cruz fan (Cubanadian), but I disagree with those of you who think Ted did himself harm in this interview.
I think it was a positive. He DID NOT come off as his normal phony self. I think he was mostly believable.
He stood up to Tucker’s calling him a liar and saying several times “I don’t believe you”. Although, by the look on Ted’s face and the way he handled it, I’ll bet this was discussed BEFORE the show.
Did Ted “FIX” this? NO! He did help himself though.
