My son watched it. His one word critique -
“Meh”.
Hemon and Mitchell (the screenwriters) are minor players in all this. I suspect their comments are intended to get their own names out there and boost their book sales. If the movie is as much of a mess as the last two, it probably doesn’t send any clear message to anybody.
The multi-culti rave was distracting but the highway battle, Monica Bellucci, and the ghost twins were a great addition.
I watched it on HBO Max (free with my AT&T cell plan) - and I have to say it was pretty tepid. It was essentially the same exact story, with almost word for word and action for action callbacks to the first movie. The kicker here is of course, Trinity became the equal to Neo, so they both control “The Matrix” now.
Neo-feminism (no pun intended) disguised as a new chapter; but in reality, it’s just the removing of “man” for “woman” as the hero.
For a more thoughtful telling of the “computer simulation” story, watch “The 13th Floor” with Craig Bierko and Gretchen Mol.
