Not sure it’s wise to do a strip mine on top of a volcano. I’d like to watch the enviros flip out if someone proposed grinding down the Cascade Mountains to make electric cars, though.
“The lion’s share of rare earth and heavy metals...”
I understand your point. I’m not being argumentative.
Lithium is a LIGHT metal: 1/4 the weight of aluminum. The only two elements that are, in fact, lighter than lithium are the gasses helium and hydrogen.
Have a Merry Christmas, FRiend!
But the other point(s) I made are worth watching.
Merry Christmas to all y'alls too!
Great post, thanks for sharing.
Another thing not being considered in the whole electric vehicle construct is home charging.
We all know how a home is rated to a certain amperage. 100 to 200 amps usually. It is my understanding that neighborhoods are also rated to the expected use with transformers and transmission wires rated to this expected load.
What happens when you add 5 - 20 extra homes in the neighborhood with 220 volt, high amperage chargers all trying to charge their EVs at the same time for 6 to 8 hours?
Will the neighborhood power lines be able to handle the additional load? Will transformers operate normally under this increased load or will they fail?
I don’t think these things have really been thought through.

AGREED!
Ideas to kick around.
graphene super capacitors
Vanadium Redox batteries. (Not for your car though!)
Hydrogen fuel cells that uses energy from Ammonia. (Imagine!! Save your Pee and convert it into Green Cash!!! Pee powered cars!!

Well, for what it’s worth, it’s an extinct volcano.
Or so they say.
Then again, the Titanic was supposed to be unsinkable.
Well...suppose it’s extinct because there are millions of tons of mountain holding the magma down. Mt. Saint Helens’ big eruption was a swelling on the north side... ‘til it slid, and then, kerblooie.
