He’s been challenged for over 35 years in GOP primaries and by various left/center Democrats and no one has come particularly close. He’ll be 80 in two months and won a new six-year Senate term just last year, who knows if he’ll even run again in 2026.
McCain did the same thing. We tried to primary him numerous times. Then the Democrats would run contemptible nobodies in the general to make sure the old snake got re-elected.
The D’s have put up big city leftist against him is why he keeps winning. He’s running against Hollywood weirdos. If they nominate a pro-gun, pro-life good old boy from the eastern or western part of the state, not Lexington or Louisville he will beat McConnell. McConnell is not that well liked by average Republicans in the state and detested by conservatives. The D alternatives have been the reason he wins.
Since 1970 KY has had only 3 Republican governors it will vote D.
