It will stop even sooner if we pay them bounty and buy them more bullets.
I support the concept of “defense of self” and “defense of property” and I believe in broad interpretation of these things. If a guy robs a store and the store owner shoots him in the back, I’m OK with that.
I find the police to be mostly useless. I would like citizens to have more leeway to deal with criminals.
Then if the perp raises the hammer....you could lower yours....
In NY, Chicago or California? Won’t happen.
They don’t need to “shoot on sight”.
The mass looting incidents are occurring in stores that can, if they want, hire and post armed guards at their sites. The presence of armed guards alone will act as a deterrent to many of the recent type of incidents in the news.
Automatic locks and bars on widows and doors . Then just shoot everyone in the store that doesn’t give up immediately . Clean up the store and get ready for the next turkey shoot. This will put an end to this.
Your property is your life.

Unless the police are present at the commission of crime they are not a deterrent, just the front line of chasing down or finding the perp after the fact.
Let them move too NY, Chicago or California then.
Government has forced us to a state of affairs where I would agree with you. It is governments fault, by design many would add, to push the problems it is supposed to handle back down on the backs of the people. This is the case with crime, rioting, theft, homelessness, broken education, and just about any of societies ills today. It is left up to the people to fix these. Government is just in the way.
Antifa in your face chanting “Protect people, not the property.”
Police are mostly secretaries who will jot down notes when people tell them about bad things that happened. I don’t see the point.
It all depends on the jurisdiction and the culture surrounding the stores.
The most effective way (which the police, DA and press will hate) would be citizen response teams who would outnumber the vandals.
“The presence of armed guards alone will act as a deterrent to many of the recent type of incidents in the news.”
It would help, unfortunately many businesses will not allow their security people to take action, from fear of law suits.
The politicians will never allow that, since the line between “Shoot looters on sight!” and “Shoot politicians on sight!” is so exceptionally thin. :)
Notice these activities are NOT occurring not in Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, West Virginia, or Wyoming.
I wonder why?
“Shoot looters on sight” must be re-instituted.
