Black Friday “in case you missed it due to the holiday” news:
Pocahontas – the woman who takes credit for having single-handedly created the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau but claims that business owners “didn’t build that themselves” – has now released the Kracken on…poultry farmers:
Sen. Elizabeth Warren calls for probe into turkey costs as prices soar. On Monday Warren asked the Department of Justice to open an investigation into anti-competitive practices by the poultry industry as turkey prices soar ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday.
Warren, a former Democratic presidential candidate, suggested that consumers are paying higher prices for turkey because of excessive consolidation, price-fixing and "plain old corporate greed."
I admire the Indian Princess’s intentions, as I’m sure they are the very best and not just designed to get herself back in the limelight for supporting the little guy, you know in case Slo-Joe finds himself unfit to run for President again. But I’m just not sure I want to fund another new Federal Agency to protect us from turkeys. Theoretically, the election system was designed to do that. So okay I see her point, but still, we hardly need an inquiry into rising turkey costs. Let’s see if we can figure out this complex problem on our own, without a DOJ probe.
The progressive agenda that Biden has put into play - which includes the shutdown of fossil fuel production as well as pipelines to transport said fuel, combined with profligate deficit spending on a great many programs including paying people not to work – has created some ‘issues’ in the market place including but not limited to:
- A labor shortage - which means
- Increased labor cost
- Increased energy costs - which means
- Increased transportation costs
- Increased refrigeration costs
- Increased production costs
- Increased poultry feed costs
In addition to all of the above, the media arm of the Democrat Party induced a “turkey shortage this year” scare, thus creating a buying frenzy which - surprise! - created a shortage. Put it all together and we’re in the midst of creating a welfare state where people don’t have to work so they don’t.
Poultry growers can’t get help, even at a higher rate so they grow fewer birds and blamo, just like that, Trump created a turkey shortage and escalating prices!
I did mention deficit spending didn’t I?
I know what you’re thinking: “Oh MOTUS, do Christmas Trees next!”
But you can do it yourself with this handy little starter kit:
- Labor shortage
- Supply chain issues
- Energy costs
Now get out there and do some Black Friday shopping for deals on stuff you don’t need, with money you don’t have. If it’s good enough for Brandon it’s good enough for you.

What government officials should be asking: “How can we help American producers?”
What government officials are asking: “How can we punish American producers?”
At least we are allowed to leave our houses this year.
We need to regulate Big Turkey.
For Pete’s sake!
The left: Pay your workers more! Plus, pay more for gas!
Producers: Okay, but we are going to have to raise prices.
The left: You greedy money-hungry m’fkers!
Yes,
I miss
the good ole days too.
Government s always punishes those that produce. Make a profit, pay higher taxes. Work overtime, pay higher taxes, drive a nicer car, higher taxes. Live to draw social security or military retirement ? That’s taxed too.
Well, I get it. If you fundamentally have no idea how a business works then it makes complete sense. I think few in govt have had a private sector job. Therefore, their solutions make complete sense.
What government officials should be asking: “How can we get out of the way of American producers?”
Supply and demand: a growing number of people want a huge number of large perishable product all the same week. Yes the price will rise to increase friction until demand balances supply.
You want a cheap turkey next year? Go buy a frozen one RIGHT NOW while grocers are selling the remainders dirt cheap, pennies on the dollar. Double bag it, stick it in the freezer, and use it next Thanksgiving.
The whole idea of raising wages while devaluing the dollar is to force more people into taxable income and drive up non-refundable contributions (Social security/MediCare) while officially downplaying inflation so SS recipients are shortchanged in their monthly payments (with inflated dollars).
Good observation.
Progressives can’t viably increase taxes on lower incomes, so devalue the dollar and agitate for higher wages, pushing more into bigger income numbers that can be taxed more, yet the value of the wages remains stable.
Right - but only if the wages DO rise. The minimum wage in NJ is now $12, and will gradually increase to $15. It is clear this was planned.
As far as inflation goes, I thought the price of turkey was pretty minor compared to the price of ham & certain other grocery products. Some of the prices were outrageous even before the inflation really set in.
There is no turkey shortage. I can go buy 50 turkeys right now for 57 cents a pound.
True. People think they are being paid more but actually the government is the only one benefiting because that raise they recently received means higher taxes and inflation is out-pacing that raise. Meanwhile, Social Security recipients are getting slammed by inflation.
love the Gnome pic! Wish it was a real garden flag available for purchase.
Shady Brook Farms brand at my local Stop and Shop has been on sale at 49 cents/lb for the past few weeks.....got mine there, a 20 pounder for 10 bucks.
They sell them for a loss to make it up with a carriage full of other groceries at the checkout line.
Right - and the employers feel it too (not just higher wages, but matching some deductions).
This debate about the cause of inflation might have been legitimate 40 years ago. It is not anymore. Elizabeth Warren knows perfectly well what causes rising prices, and the rest of the Left does too. This is being done on purpose.
