Don’t be a dumbass. A couple of guys with cameras are on a public sidewalk a great distance away. According to your definition they came out and accosted him. They approached him. Aggressively. He matches their tone. If they want to have a civil conversation or ask a question it would go differently. Best advice if you don’t want to be on camera in public, don’t walk up to it.

The true auditors record the police.

As I told you before the first amendment doens’t just cover the police. You are allowed to film anything you can see in public. More people need to understand this and stop being paranoid. If you have something you want to keep private keep it at home.

Filming in public isn’t harrassing. That is what you don’t get.

The spam caller example you gave would be different because you are engaging someone by calling them up on the phone. AP doesn’t engage. But if they want to engage him in a conversation or whatever, he will engage or might not.

There is no right to privacy in a public space. Period. You are barking up the wrong tree.

How’s this for decency?

1) Sticking a middle finger up to a couple of guys on a sidewalk. I thought southerners were supposed to be friendly

2) Going up to a camera barking orders.

3) Lady records them and then she gets out of her car and goes crazy and says he doesn’t have the right to record. So life only on her terms?

Then she or the lady in the store makes things up about confrontations and being on their property when she calls the police. That tells you right there that you aren’t too sure in what you have going on that you need to embellish.

These people at the pot dispensary need an education on what our rights are and what they are not allowed to do.

For many years my father ran a small construction business. And I was one of his laborers (no fun there).

Now let’s suppose that some guy with a camera is standing in front of one of my father’s construction sites. The cameraman is filming the site while standing on a public right-of-way.

Does the cameraman have a 1A right to do that? Yes, absolutely.

Is the cameraman filming there simply to exercise his 1A rights? Not a chance. Anyone who believes that is naive. This cameraman has some other agenda.

Is the cameraman expecting some sort of reaction? Yes, indeed. Otherwise he would not be there. Anyone who believes otherwise is naive.

If I were on that job site, would I approach the cameraman? You betcha I would. I’d want to know what’s going on. Most people would instinctively do the same.

And that’s exactly what the garbage cameraman is hoping for. Controversy sells.

Just because he has a camera doesn't mean he owns the sidewalk and can expect others to accommodate him and his camera.

You sound ridiculous. Like he has a right to accost people. This is like the idiots who lay down in the road to express 'their right of free speech'. PPL are fed up with 'it's all about me' shit. F him and his camera.

No one cares about his 'look at my rights' BS. PPL are fed up. But that's probably why he's there. Getting views, gettin paid.

Professional jerks harassing people

Lady coming out and walking up to them demanding answers and they don’t want to answer isn’t harassment. If you go up to someone and they don’t want to answer you, just accept that and walk away. You have no right to demand an answer out of anybody. It could be a Rush Limbaugh thing where you have to watch a few videos to understand it all.

Correct. And that’s the way it should be.

So let’s say that you and your main squeeze are sitting on a park bench. It’s a pleasant day, and the two of you are having a nice conversation. I have the legal right to pull up a chair six feet from you, and start filming. Yes, I have that right.

And maybe you’ll reaction with anger. Great! Then I can put my video on YouTube and get a million hits.

But my videotaping is not morally right. And that’s what I’m arguing here. Do the right thing. Not just legally, but morally. Be considerate to people who mean no harm to you.

If you want to ask a question that’s your right. If you want to go up to the camera and act like an ass and cause drama, call the police and all that ridiculousness and it goes on youtube and it gets lots of views, that’s your problem.

These guys having driven over 50,000 miles over the last two years defending the constitution. This is difficult for some people to understand: how does harassing/provoking people turn into my rights? It’s a shame that your rights are seen as harassment this days. That’s the point.

Watch these two. These go a little bit differently. It goes perfectly...

EXPOSED ON A PUBLIC SIDEWALK !! - GULFPORT MISSISSIPPI - First Amendment Audit - Amagansett Press

TABASCO PEPPER BOY MEETS CAMERA !! Louisiana Post Office - First Amendment Audit - Amagansett Press
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B6LKCMcLjnw

The ones like these that go well without the drama are their favorite audits. That is the goal and that is the world we want to live in.

The vast majority of these 1st Amendment frauditors could care less about the 1A. It’s about annoying people and LEOs to get a reaction and clicks for their YouTube channels. Total scum.

There are hundreds of such videos on Youtube. It seems to me that most of these "First Amendent auditors" who barge into post offices, libraries, police stations, private businesses, etc with video cameras do so because they get their kicks harassing people and trying o provoke a reaction. On the other hand, many of these audits are legitimate.

Audit the Audit is an authoritative Youtube channel that takes an evenhanded approach to video audits. Schrödinger's Cat, on the other hand, is a Youtube channel that exposes and takes down the "frauditors."

Nope. Those guys have driven all that distance to provoke people and make exciting YouTube videos. “Defending the Constitution” is just a cover, as I see it.

Don’t get me wrong. There are some awesome 1A auditors. They really keep the cops on their toes! I particularly admire “Big Nick South Florida Accountability” and “High Desert Community Watch”.

Anyway, you and I obviously disagree here. But you have kept the conversation civil, and I hope I have too.

Regards,
LR

This is what you need to understand. Standing with a camera is not provoking or harassing anyone. First amendment isn’t just for the cops. Anywhere you can be publicly you are allowed to record.

Yes, indeed. But please see my post #29.

I have enjoyed this conversation with you. Even when I disagree with someone here, I often learn something and get new perspectives.

I will give you the last word on this topic as an old ‘Columbo’ episode is coming on, and I’ve got to get my hot cocoa ready.

Again, regards and good evening.

F him and his camera. Just because he has a camera doesn’t mean he owns the sidewalk and can expect others to accommodate him and his camera.

Just because he is on the sidewalk, doesn’t mean he owns the sidewalk. He never said he did. Just that he had a right to be there doing what he is doing. They don’t have to acommodate, just like he doesn’t have to accomodate their request to don’t record. Don’t want to be on camera then you probably shouldn’t walk up to the camera.

Actually, the stoned lady in the store is the one who claimed she owned the sidewalk, that he was on her property when he was the public sidewalk. She needs to get educated. That’s the point.

And he wasn’t even filming them. And they weren’t even on the sidewalk. They went way out of their way and came to him.

Seriously, you need to watch a couple more videos and you will understand. Watch 5 of them and then tell me where I am wrong. Exercising your rights and standing on a public sidewalk with a camera is not accosting anyone. Don’t want to be filmed, then you should probably get in your car, go home and don’t go up in their face with the camera that is very far away, drive around, honk your horn and try to create something.

Or maybe the real reason you don’t like these videos is because are one of the bad law enforcement officers out there who doesn’t like the constitution and wants to make things up. If you were one of the good officers you would understand it.

Clearly, Seriously you don’t understand the First Amendment either.

Your example in post 29 is not what they do, they don’t go up to people and stick cameras in people’s faces. If you go up to them and get in their face (which is what usually happens) and try to create something, then that is on you.

If you create a disturbance and it gets a millions views, and he’s cashing in, great for them, but that is not what they are trying to do.

What this is is an exercise of rights to be out in public taking video and photographs in public as a test to see if anyone will violate their rights. Not just the right not to be violated by police. Our rights. The goal is to make them all go smoothly.

There’s only a handful of Auditors on YouTube that I actually consider knowledgeable and respectful and actually wants to make things better and Amagansett Press is definitely on the forefront.

“pestering”
“provoking”
“harassing” civilians
“annoying” people
“accosted” and insulted
“basic decency”

It is Extremely depressing to witness such clueless pinhead thinking here at FR.
Read Thumper1960 post 24 : “There is no right to privacy in public. PERIOD.”

I’m sure all you Karens who think otherwise are also raising holy hell about the hundreds of cameras recording you everyday and the one you’re staring into right now.
