That’s not the basis of Christianity
It might be for Judaism...
Christ’s sacrifice for us is without question the basis of Christianity
The tenet you’re touting is ....sort of love they neighbor as thyself
Which works Christians always like to use as a stand alone
But it’s a follow up in Christ’s answer.....paraphrased.....love god with all thy might ....and love thy neighbor as thyself
Matthew said that somewhere...
I’m no preacher but I know the basics well enough....southern Baptist upbringing
Which I was just discussing the other day ....spared a man once....I was asked why I didn’t kill a certain transgressor forty years ago ...when I could have with no fear of repercussion...he’d stolen a fortune from me
I knew then i could kill but not murder....which ironically streamlines into your proffer
Executing him would have been stone cold murder....i did not want to stand before God to answer that after my death
Love they neighbor
Wardaddys parable for the day...lol
The hidden truth....I spared him for me...for my soul
Exactly. And also why people should get vaccinated. A very slight risk of personal sacrifice, for a very high chance of protecting others from harm.
You’ve got it right, wardaddy. That is the tenet the poster is trying to misquote. Loving your neighbor as yourself would allow them to make their own choices, just like you would prefer to do - just like God allows all of us to do.
I find it interesting that someone misinterpreting God’s words for his own purposes has a handle that sounds like the archetypical enemy of God - Babylon. In the garden, the first sin was committed why? Because God was misquoted... His word was twisted subtly by the serpent, and added to by Eve.
