My 36 year old daughter passed away last March after battling COVID for about a week. I've been in a sort of fog since then, but have responsibilities to the rest of my family. I can't simply shut down. The state of the world sure doesn't help as I see a world living in fear.

Even relying on faith has become difficult as I see my church climb aboard all the fear. But I have many close friends and family who give me support.

One thing I believe is that I cannot outrun the pain. I must feel it until it passes, then again when it comes back. And it comes back often. Most of all I try to keep in mind that the pain is directly related to the love I had for her, and I believe that someday that love will outlast the pain.

You are among FRiends here.

So sorry for your loss. You’re definitely not alone as I lost both of my parents in 2019. One day at a time….

Been with the current wife now for 23 years. The first marriage was a bust. As the current missus likes to say, "Be nice to me. I'm the only one who will put up with you." LOL We lost Dad in '99, right before Christmas. There was a pall hanging over the whole house, like a fog. My mother is 81, is going through a terrible time with back surgery rehab, and thanks to MediScam Part B, she's being forced to sell our family home of 57 years to pay for at-home caregiving when she relocates to my sister's place in PA. And I didn't even have a voice in it. Then to rub salt in already open wounds, one of our cats came in here in the den a couple nights ago, went into the bathroom closet, and just laid down and died. I had no clue she was suffering. My wife was devastated, and so was I. Neither of us is in a good headspace right now. I wish I could honestly say something - anything - to make a difference to you, other than we've all felt what you're feeling, and that time and distance will at least help the healing. OK, Mr. Tough Guy here is now crying and I can't see my keyboard.

Prayers up. For all of us tonight, whoever you are out there, God bless. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

I had a cat that used to sleep on top of the toilet. She passed in that very spot one day. She was 18 years. Amazing cat.

That was many years ago. Miss her still.

God bless you and prayers up.

That’s what pained us the most. We lost our dogs; one, to cancer, the other two in a house fire. It’s a connected thread as to how we got these cats. This one adopted my wife as a kitten, and she was only nine, which is barely middle age for cats. They live a long time. My buddy’s cat died when he (the cat) was 20. My buddy came home, and his cat was just curled up on the floor in the family room, like he decided to take a nap. Even worse, he’d just lost his wife of 30 years to diabetes, which caused her to endure two pancreas/kidney transplants (which didn’t take), and eventually, they had to amputate her leg above the knee. I lean on him for suppport at times like these; my mother always told him he was ‘her other son’. He’s always been there; very stoic.

Hang in there. I lost my Mom in June of this year. I hope that sharing the sorrow of your loss is helping to ease your pain.

I lost my most beloved extroverted and knowledgeable younger healthy brother to this damn cabal mandated covid protocol....I'm more angry now thinking about it....

anxiety and grief is normal....but you have to walk away from it....stop dwelling on it...at least for a day at a time....

you have to know that God is in ultimate control....

we're on this train but we are not the conductors...

Its hard to face the loss.

My Father passed when I was 13. My Mother passed when I was 38.

You do your best to remember what you learned from them.

You as well will pass.

that is so sad about your son....infact, all these sad stories....

I often think about death...

it really shouldn't shock us but it does....

we must all go thru it like or not....

like most, I'm a wimp...I want to go first before my husband....certainly can't imagine losing children before I'm gone....but this damn covid and the injections....many worries...

Oh, and I haven’t forgotten about getting you that Alienware laptop. It’s up on the shelf, above where Mama Kat just passed. It’s a little creepy going into that place right now, and our remaining cats - Mama Kat’s kids - won’t even use the litter box in the hallway outside the door. They are freaked, nervous, and really depressed. But I’ll ping you for a shipping address when I go in there and pull it. I kind of figgered we’d circle up in December somewhere, but it looks like for now, I won’t be logging any interstate windshield time this year, I don’t think. There is just too much shit happening at once. It’s like taking artillery fire from all directions, and a lot of it is friendly fire.

Sadly, I know how you feel.

I no longer say “What next” because that seems to just invoke more bad crap.

Animals know when one of the family is missing.

Bubby dropped dead 4 years ago and Gypsy is still grieving for him.
She resents Hrafi because he’s “not Bubby” and that’s no exaggeration.

Then her other buddy Djinni died 2 years ago, as of yesterday and she has gone downhill and started ‘acting out’ on Hrafi something fierce, literally.

She’s hurting from her own losses and I cut her tons of slack because I understand that.

She’s like at least 14 now, maybe 15 and fading on me so I pamper the heck out of her, even more than before.

I hope she goes out like Djinni and your cat did...just goes to sleep and doesn’t wake up so I don’t have to go through the “holding them as they leave” ordeal.

I know that’s selfish but when I have to do that, I FEEL it.

Sucks.

:’(

Thanks cherry...for your kind words. It is tough to think about. Mortality is an uncomfortable topic, huh?

And I don't think you're a wimp for wanting to go first...I think it's selfless - besides, you can get there first and get things ready for when he comes along, right? :)
