Great to hear. I seem to have lost some of the benefits from the high doses, but still way better than before I started. After the New Year I’mma try the curcumin method and see what happens.
My gut instinct (no pun intended?) is to stick with 1200-1500mg doses of niacin, regardless of how much or little curcumin. It has been remodeling my body - in a good way. I’m 67, and eat healthy and exercise and all that, but was beginning to resign myself to my more slightly dumpy-ish shape because, well, I’m 67. But lately I’ve noticed that my pants were fitting loosely, and lo and behold, I’m fitting into some of the clothes that I wore 15 years ago that had gotten uncomfortably or even impossibly tight. Muscle is easier to build, too. And I haven’t changed my diet or exercise routines, but they just seem to be having actual more noticeable results for me now. Niacin is the only thing that’s been added... hmmm!

I don’t think anyone has spent “thousands”. I’ve financed 5 people and have not spent one thousand yet. But some people do buy all the co-factors as well. All the protocols have worked for the vast majority. The principle remains - get niacin into the cells to drive out inflammation. He’s trying to get it right for everyone, and I think he’s disappointed in the long Covid results. Perfection is the enemy.
Well, last night PureBulk had loads of curcimin available in all size bags, and now it’s sold out. You snooze you lose, I guess. And that stuff is expensive! So it looks like some folks must be spending the big bucks. And now I see Dmitri is frowning on NOW brand capsules, which he originally endorsed, because of quality issues. Sigh.

One of the interesting changes I’ve noted with niacin is a marked decrease in body odor, specifically armpit odor. Deodorant used to be a necessity, but even with deodorant I needed to shower daily, hoping that the deodorant would last through the day. Now the need for deodorant is much less and I can go two or three days without a shower.
I think it’s had a significant effect on my breath odor as well.

There’s an another aspect to my perspiration odor. I’ve been doing hot yoga for nearly two decades. Most of that was Bikram hot yoga, which is done in a combination of high heat and high humidity, so the sweat would drip off like crazy. For me, at least, this wasn’t normal sweat, but a very pungent sweat, meaning I had to wash my clothes and yoga towel immediately on returning home or Mrs. AZLiberty would throw me out of the house.
Surely this smelly sweat meant I was getting rid of lots of toxins, so it had to be good for me.
Now when I get back from hot yoga, like one of the lovely Texas-based virtual instructors says, “It ain’t no thing.” Sometimes I don’t even bother changing out of my yoga clothes for quite a while, and Mrs. AZLiberty hasn’t complained.
It seems that niacin has changed my entire biochemistry, so that my body doesn’t even generate the “toxins” that I used to get rid of through hot yoga.
The super high dosing was a big time detox. I’ve experienced similar things.
My current curcumin+niacin regimen, and how I got here (next message):
I previously reported the benefits I have received from being on curcumin+niacin (”NiaCur”). Here are some details:
Currently, I take curcumin once a day, either before or with breakfast. I take two 665 mg capsules of “Turmeric Curcumin”, the NOW brand.

I take 1.5 to 2 grams of niacin at a time (from Pure Bulk). The first dose is 20-30 min after the morning curcumin (and food). The second dose is in the evening (early or late doesn’t seem to matter). I generally dissolve the niacin in 24 oz of liquid. It takes warm liquid to dissolve the niacin, so I measure the niacin (1/2 tsp = 2 grams) into the cup, add an ounce of wolfberry purée (another habit of mine), add a cup of room-temperature filtered water, add approx. 10 oz of boiling water to dissolve the niacin, stir until dissolved, and then add a few ounces of cranberry cocktail to sweeten it up a little and cool it to an easy drinking temperature. Plain niacin has a nondescript acidic flavor, which gets boring.

My history on Niatonin/Niacur (you can find more details upthread):
I started with the melatonin+niacin approach months ago. This involved gradually increasing the niacin while attempting to prevent the flush with melatonin. My first experience was a hot mess, with a full-on flush and my blood pressure dropping below 80. I soon learned that you’re not supposed to do this on an empty stomach. It got better, although I was eventually consuming massive amounts of melatonin (hundreds of milligrams vs. the usual go-to-sleep dose of 3 mg). It didn’t make me as sleepy as I thought I might, but it wasn’t optimal.
The next approach was using pistachios and later dried tart cherries as the melatonin source. Fortunately, I like pistachios and I was glad to learn about the dried cherries. These worked well until I then switched to sodium butyrate as suggested by Dr. K, which worked even better, and then to curcumin, which works very well indeed.
I think it was in the butyrate phase that I raised my niacin dose to as high as 3 grams, at which point my body went through its biggest change. I had 24 hours of complete though unplanned cleanse and experienced an immediate and continuing weight loss of several pounds. The high dose of niacin cleared something out of my gut that has yet to return.
In switching from butyrate to curcumin, I think I overlapped them for a couple of days and then went straight to curcumin. I meant to keep a daily journal — and did for a month or so — but then just got too busy with other things.
Once I switched to curcumin, I quit measuring the niacin with a scale, and started using volume measure. It turns out 2 g is just about exactly 1/2 tsp, so I just measure out a half a teaspoon, sometimes a little less, sometimes a little more.
My recommendation: try an initial dose of niacin, 500 mg or less, and gradually work up to 1 or 2 g. If you’re still OK at 2 g, try 3 for a while to see if there’s additional benefits. You might as well start the curcumin at two capsules — it’s harmless and good for you.

This is going to be another confusing iPhone trigger. Whenever Mrs. AZLiberty says “Seriously”, her iPhone talks back to her, thinking she’s talking with Siri, the voice assistant. I don’t think I’ll mention Seriacin to her.

I’m through with all the changes. Niacin it is for me, nothing more. And actually, I was thinking of taking a break from it for a week or two, and only taking my “previously normal” array of supplements, just to see what happens.
I got my L-serine today. I’ll try the starting dose of TWELVE GRAMS on Sunday.
