What started small grew into a countywide grassroots effort drawing hundreds of volunteers from within the state and from across the country who collectively spent thousands of hours visiting the residences of almost 12,000 registered voters in Maricopa County.

In reality, they only gathered data on 4,570 voters and they're using those results to project what happened in the entire county that has over 2.5 million voters. Pretty small sampling.

Depending upon their methodology, it’s not really particularly small. Consumer and political polling routinely has much smaller samples. You’d have to look at the details of the number to determine the appropriate margin of error.
