I remember the shrinkflation thing back when tuna cans shrunk to 6 or 5 ounce cans. Sneaky bastards.

Actually according to this article (apology in advance for posting the Daily Beast liberal trash) canned tuna back 20 years ago was actually 7 ounces, then shrunk to 6.5, then 6.125, then 6 and then 5, all the while the price stays the same or goes UP even with the downsizing.

Article from 2010 documenting tuna can shrinkage from 6oz. to 5oz.

That probably was planned. Changing can sizes requires a cost outlay in new stamping dies. Same for blow molded beverage bottles. The lead-time for new tooling is measured in months... several months.

Ice cream used to be $2.49 or on sale $1.99 / half gallon.
It’s now $5.49 or $6.49 for 1.5 quarts.
