I'll double mine. My son is going through chemo...his doctor said to get the vaccine. He got the J&J. No reaction.

I think Danny Thomas would expect them to get vaccinated without being directed to.

J&J does not have the mRna, right?

Folks, the issue isn’t about whether the vaccine is right or wrong, or good or bad.

The issue is about a government having the power to mandate a medical procedure on citizens.

That is it.

If the government can rationalize a way to force you to submit to a medical procedure in the event of a virus that kills a very small percentage of people (for argument’s sake, let’s say 2% mortality rate, but I feel that number is unreliable due to the denominator inaccuracy)

Someone could say “Well, if it killed 50% of infected people I think it might be justifiable.”

Fine, and many rational people might agree with a “Uh, that would be okay” decision.

What about if it kills 45%? Uh, probably still okay to force people to submit to a medical procedure.

The problem is, now you have consented to agree that there is a continuum. Now that you have made that judgement, how about 10.0% mortality rate? We already have large numbers of people who think it is fine for something with a 2% mortality rate.

What about if it kills 1.5% of infected people? Or, 0.5%? Or, .0005%?

The point is, once you rationalize a continuum, the entire sliding scale of the continuum becomes a grayscale filled with shades of gray.

And people in power will choose the medical procedure to be performed, and where on that continuum filled with shades of gray the line would be drawn.

If you think I am making too fine a point on this, consider this: The planet is growing short of resources of some kinds. There are people out there with political power who have said they approve of population control due to their perception that there aren’t enough resources to go around. Heck, we have one of those people RIGHT NOW (Tracy Stone-Manning) who is being nominated to lead the Bureau of Land Management who wrote the following in a 1992 thesis she wrote arguing for population control to protect the environment. Her paper included a sample advertisement which described a toddler as “the environmental hazard in this photo.”

Under what circumstances could forced sterilization occur? Never happen? Really? Communist China has been doing just such a thing, as did the Nazis. Are we that special that we would never, ever, do that kind of thing here in the USA? I don’t feel especially sanguine about that. And that is just sterilization, never mind outright government murder to clean the gene pool or reduce the population.

Once we agree to give the government power to force people to undergo invasive medical procedures against their will, anything can and will happen.

For what it is worth, to many people out there pondering this (including many on this very forum) it is a mental or philosophical exercise, the mandating of an invasive procedure for the “good of the country”.

For me, it is not a mental exercise. My hospital has just informed me via email that the vaccine will soon be mandatory as a condition of employment.

I have been working there nearly 35 years and I love my job, admire the hospital, think the world of the care we provide, and adore the people I work with. They treat me like gold.

But I will soon have a choice to make. I am lucky, in a way. If I wanted to retire, I could do so and survive. But many people are not so lucky. They may not be far enough along to be able to walk away as I might have to. But I am beyond angry that they are forcing this choice.

I have received vaccines my whole life as a military dependent traveling around the world before the age of 13, and as an active duty member of the United States Navy. In my hospital employment, I am the first in line for vaccinations, and when this one came out and they “asked” me to get it, I got it because it was (in my mind) for the good of the patients, if nothing more than it put them at ease. I would do it for that reason alone, and I know many who would do the same because it could be their anxiety ridden loved ones coming into the hospital. I am in no way, shape, or form against vaccines even if I respect the opinions of people who ARE against vaccination, as wrong-headed as they might be in a specific opinion or another as their rationale.

But the key phrase in that entire paragraph above is “asked”. They “asked” me and let me make a choice. Which I will make. If they force this on me with future vaccinations, I will dig in my heels and may have to leave.

I am lucky. I have skills. Some people don’t and can’t make that choice. They could lose their livelihood.

Interestingly, the government knows the ability to mandate this at the Federal level is unconstitutional, so...they are outsourcing it to the private sector. They have said this is what they are doing, pushing it down to the state, city, town, and corporate level, and having them mandate it. I believe they are doing it so the the lawsuits that may entail will be very narrowly defined and only knock out one company’s ability to do it, but the rest will stand. It is evil.

It is fundamentally wrong to give a government this power. They cannot be trusted with it. We cannot allow them to have it, even for “our own good”.
