Gaydar just went off....
They’ve been listening to ‘The Ventures’ “Walk, Don’t Run”.
Apparently your brain gets used to well-delivered oxygen when you're in shape.
Here’s my favorite physical test.
Grab a heavy glass mug.
Lift and bend your arm at the elbow, bringing said mug to your chin.
Lower the mug towards your knee (you are standing!)
Repeat three sets of 100 cycles each
Congrats, you are fit and on your way to Popeye arms
I did my USAF Basic Training in 1970. Even back then the PT was a joke compared to the other branches. But, it didn’t matter much to me because I was in very good shape when I went in.
“I was thinking v that pilots don’t have to be as in shape as other branches.”
Try pulling some G’s when you’re out of shape. Could very well lead to a heart attack or a stroke. When I was in the USAF the pilots who flew the fast movers were all in pretty good shape. But, that was some fifty years ago.
Oh yeah, USAF Basic Training PT was a joke. Out of six weeks of Basic, we had one half of one day on the actual Confidence Course. The other half of the day was for dry fire training on the M-16, in prep for the next day on the live fire range.
I think they need to maintain the physical ability standards, but the height/weight charts are too stringent for some services. My son wants to go in the Air Force. He started out at 285 pounds and has lost 45 pounds, but has hit a place where he’s just not losing anymore, despite doing 5x weekly Brazilian jiu-jitsu at a competitive level now (BJJ and a good diet are how he lost the weight). At 6’3” his max weight is 220, meaning they want him no more than 215. He’s in better shape than most guys I know at this point, though.
“Airmen?!” How racist, misogynist, Gynophobic; Venustraphobia; Homophobic, Transphobic, or traditionalist conservative.
81-85, there was no annual physical fitness test thst I was aware of.
False.
So long as you were in compliance with AFR 35-11, they left you alone.
35-10
I went in at 17 years old. I was 6’1”, 195 lbs.
Nobody said a thing, until I got to Basic and they said I was a ‘fat boy’ and needed to lose at least 10 lbs.
Fought my weight for 28 years.
Mealy Mouth Miley and the joint chiefs are setting us up for a 21st century Pearl Harbor event and we are really going to get the hell kicked out of us in blood and treasure. Our enemies train for war and we are doing social experiments.
Wow!! The Air Force has really changed... When I went through basic during the 1950’s at Sampson AFB, we had P.T. every morning. Running and double time drills, constant marching, plus running the obstacle course and of course taking apart, cleaning and learning to shoot both the M-1 carbine. We also went on a full pack night 20 mile march.
Boot Camp in Plugs the Pedo's military.
I was thinking an Office and a Gentleman when he allowed the woman to go around the wall on the obstacle course instead of climbing it.
I can assure you that I underwent no annual test that anyone of my acquaintance took, or spoke of. Was there such a program? Most likely. They had a program for everything. They could roust you out of bed at 3 AM twice a year in the name of Morale, Welfare, and Recreation, too, but if things were going smoothly, they didn’t bother us.
When I was in while the Earth’s rocks were cooling, the USAF had their physical annual test as 14 minutes run 1.5 miles or walk it in 45 minutes.
“Do they still get bon bons on their pillows at night?”
Only when the air conditioners are working. :)
